Terrill/Terrill/Tyrrell Lines

Anthony M. TERRILL [Parents] was born about 1790 in , , Virginia. He died on 20 Dec 1870 in Marshall Co., AL. Anthony married Willey TALLEY on 30 Oct 1817 in Halifax Co., Virginia.

From: [email protected] (Harvey Powers):

"Anthony M. Terrell, Sr. was born in Virginia according to Marshall County, Alabama, census records. While he is found on only a few of those records, he seems to have have children present but never a wife in the household.

We know he married Willey Talley of Virginia in Halifax County. In Willey Tally's father's will, he mentions both daughters who married Terrells (Willey & Mary Mickey Elizabeth Terrell). There are rumors that Willey Talley divorced Anthony and later remarried. That might explain her absence from the 1850 census record, but we have no real proof.

In 1820, Anthony and wife and one child under five are on the census roll for Halifax County (p.66, roll 131). That child could be William.

By 1826, he is in North Carolina for the birth of daughter Martha, He remains in North Carolina when his son Anthony Jr. is born. By 1832, he is in Tennessee for the birth of son Peyton. And in 1836, he is in Alabama for the birth of another daughter.

And by 1850, at age 60, he is on the Marshall County, AL census without a wife. Anthony Terrell's will names most of his children, their married names and where they resided. If only all our ancestors had been so considerate.

This research on the Anthony Terrell line has been done by Helen (Mrs. James) Nunnally, 3500 Copeland Road, Tyler, TX 75701-8800. Phone 903-561-6055. She has presented this author with pages of carefully
researched and documented information on Anthony's progeny and we are most grateful."

John,
The books I was referring to were by Ayers and Dickens. I'm in Florida for
the winter and don't have them with me.
My Terrill lines as I can figure them out:
1. Robert Terrill m. Mary Foster
2. Robert Terrill m. Judith Towles (more on this later)
2. Elizabeth Terrill m. Peter Rucker
3. Elizabeth Rucker m. Thomas Herring
4. Sally Herring m. Frances Bourne (son of William and Peggy Hawkins
5. Terrill Bourne m. Nancy Noel (his 1st cousin - dau of Lucy
Bourne (Wm & Peggy) and Moses Noel
6. Lucy Jane Bourne m. Robert Pollard (my gg grandfather)
Robert was the son of James Pollard and Elizabeth Terrill

Elizabeth Terrill was the dau of Nancy Herring (dau of Elizabeth Rucker and Thomas Herring) and Robert Terrill. Who was this Robert Terrill? Some have said he was the son of Henry Towles Terrill, son of Robert Terrill and Judith Towles but when Henry wrote his will in 1822, my Robert was dead. (He died in 1815). I don't think Henry would mention him if he knew he was dead and they all lived in the same county.

So, was he the son of Robert and Judith? They did have a son Robert. If
this is so, then he would have been quite a lot older than Nancy Herring but
he did die soon after their marriage. He also could have been a grandson -
son of a brother to Henry Towles Terrill.

One other bit of information. In one of the Terrill books, Dickens I
believe, it is said that it is believed that Robert Terrill, husband of Judith Towles, died in Madison Co., Kentucky. He actually died in Garrard Co., next to Madison or at least that's where his estate papers are. I found the originals filed with the papers for Robert Terrill, husband of Nancy Herring, in the Courthouse. I copied them but don't have them with me. I don't think anyone else has ever found them before and I haven't passed on the information except to you. Just haven't had the occasion so now 2 of us know where he really died.

The Terrills and Bournes always seemed to have married their cousins - which makes me wonder how any of us descendants can walk upright If you map out
the above, they are all inter-related. There are a lot of land grants to "Robert Terrill" and "Terrill and Hawkins" but I haven't had time to look at the originals and sort them all out. I've been working on a book on the Pollards for the past 2 years and haven't had time.
Sorry this is so long but it's very confusing.
