Wilhelm Kruse Sr. Family Home Page

Welcome to our Wilhelm Kruse Sr., and Sophia Reinhardt Page! The Kruse family originally came from Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. Wilhelm "William" Kruse Sr. born December 27, 1816, in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. His parents are unknown at this time. He worked as a farmer and as a gardener.

William Kruse Sr. married a Maria Dorothea "Sophia" Reinhardt who was born October 15, 1814, also in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. Her parents were Ernst "Wilhelm" Reinhardt and Dorothea Degener both from Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. Sophia worked as a housewife. William and Sophia were the parents of at least five children.

-- Maria "Mary" who was born December 19, 1837, in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. She married a Dietrich Heidenreich living in Sedamsville, Ohio and were the parents of three children.

-- Frederick who was born April 5, 1841, in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. He married a Dorothea Wilhelmina Brase living in Sedamsville, Ohio and in later years in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were the parents of six children.

-- Heinrich "Henry" who was born December 25, 1845, in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. He was married on two separate occasions. First was to Louisa Fischhofer living in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany for a short period of time and then Sedamsville, Ohio until her death. They were the parents of seven children.

Henry's second marriage was to a Margaret "Maggie" Frank living the rest of their life together in the Sedamsville, Ohio area. They were the parents of seven children and one stepchild.

-- Wilhelm "William" Jr. who was born May 12, 1847, in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. He married a Mary Schatz living their entire life together in Sedamsville, Ohio and were the parents of ten children.

-- Dorothea was born about 1857 in Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany. No other information is available.

In 1867,  the Kruse family departed Germany to immigrate in America. Their destination upon their arrival was for Sedamsville, Cincinnati, Ohio. William Sr. and Sophia with two of their children William Jr. and Dorothea departed from Bremen, Germany to Southhampton, England and then onto America. The name of their ship was called "Union". They arrived in New York on 24 August 1867.

There were other families from Linsburg, Husum, Hanover, Germany and the same destination on the voyage. Believe some of them were related to the Kruse family, such as, Franke, Papner, Degener, Wegenger. I do know that the two Franke spouses Mina and Dora were both originally Kruse's. The names of their fathers were Frederick and Heinrich respectively. I can only speculate, but there is a possibility that William Kruse Sr., Frederick and Heinrich could be brothers. It may only be a coincidence but William Sr. did name his first two sons Frederick and Heinrich.

Their son Heinrich "Henry" at the age of 21 and their daughter Maria was accompanied by her husband Dietrich Heidenreich and their two children William and Mary departed from Bremen, Germany and arrived September 2, 1867 in Baltimore, Maryland. The name of their ship was called "Schiller".

Unable to find any departure information on their oldest son Frederick or  their daughter-in-law, Louisa (Fischhofer), Henry's wife. Believe Louisa who did not accompany her husband Henry to America was pregnant with their first child Mary. Her birth was in late 1867 or early 1868. As for Frederick, he possibly stayed behind in Germany to finalize matters and/or to accompany Henry's wife Louisa to America after she and her newly born child were able to travel. Both were in Sedamsville, Ohio by spring 1870. This is based on the 1870 Census taken in April 1870. Also, Frederick married Mina Brase in Sedamsville, Ohio November 1869.

From the time of their arrival in America William and Sophia lived in the Sedamsville, Ohio area. Originally they lived with Sophia's family (Reinhardt's) farm on Delhi Pike near  the cooperation line. They lived most of life at 77 Delhi Pike. They were members of St. Martini Church of Christ (German Lutheran), in Sedamsville.

William Sr. died on August 15, 1884 at the age of 77 years, 7 months, 20 days.  Diarrhea was the cause of death. On August 17, 1884, he was buried in Walnut Hills cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio

Sophia died on January 9, 1881 at the age of 66 years, 2 months, 26 days. Lung fever (phenmonia) was the cause of death. On January 12, 1881, she was buried in Walnut Hills cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio. They are both buried in their son William's lot (1642).
