MATYJA

This page contains the data I collected about the John MATYJA family of Omaha, Nebraska USA in response to an e-mail I received from Agata.  I have no personal family ties to this family.   BACK to my Miscellaneous Research page.

22 April 2006 -- e-mail from Agata
My name is Agata ... I’m from Poland (Leki Gorne) and I’m looking for some Matyja Family - my [great grandfather's] (Fillip Matyja) brother came to Omaha (John Matyja and I know he had 12 children)

23 April --  I also know Roman and Maria Matyja (sibling of John came with him but they stayed in Chicago and they never got married).
Before beginning my search for John MATYJA, I was going to ask Agata if she had any more information about him.  I decided to first check the census records at Ancestry.com to see if I could find him listed.  I chose 1910 as an arbitrary starting point.  Wonder of wonders -- I immediately found a John MATYJA in Omaha, Nebraska.  There were only two children enumerated with John and his wife Kate.  They had been married only three years at this time.  I went to the 1920 and 1930 censuses and found in total 12 children.  John's brother Roman was enumerated with him in the 1920 census.
