Obituary for Nellie (Griffee) Barta


MRS. JOSEPH BARTA DIES AT SCHROYER
End comes following an illness of several weeks, Burial here today

Mrs. Joseph Barta, a resident of Marshall county since 1878 passed away at her home at Schroyer at 6:30 O'clock Tuesday evening, age 55 years 7 months and 21 days. She had been in poor health for almost a year, but had been critically ill only a few weeks.

Nellie Griffee was born in Illinois July 4, 1874, at the age of 4 years she moved with her parents Mr & Mrs Marshall Griffee, to Kansas and located in the Blanchville neighborhood. Here she grew to womanhood and on September 26, 1905 she was united in marrige with Joseph Barta. The young couple went to house keeping at Schroyer and reared their family there. Mrs. Barta was a member of the Mother Church of Christ Scientists at Boston, Mass. She was a fine woman, held in loving regard regard by her husband and children and highly esteemed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon, Feb 27, at 2 o'clock with Mrs C. A. Hammett, Christian Science practitioner, in charge of services, interment will be in the Marysville cemetery.

Immediate relatives surviving the deceased are; the husband Joseph Barta; four sons, Alva, Glen, Ned, and Harold Barta, and one daughter Miss Martha Barta, all of the home address; her mother Mrs. Martha Griffee of Dennison, Kansas, two brothers, Orley Griffee of near Schroyer and Wilson Griffee of St Joseph, Mo., two sisters, Mrs Lulu Swank of Dennison, Ks and Mrs Lora Ensign of Waterville, Ks., Two half brothers, Marshall Griffee of northwest of Marysville and Frank Griffee of Blanchville and one half Sister Mrs. Mary Nolind of Conesville, Iowa.
