He married (1) Susan Helwick August 07, 1803 in Pennsylvania, daughter of Adam Helwig and Catharina Carl. He married (2) Rachel Hays August 10, 1854 in Allen County, Ohio.

Sarah "Sally," (1810-1859) daughter of John William and Susan (Helwick) Gensel, married May 11, 1834 in Pickaway County, Ohio, Enoch Spangler (1801-1890) son of Johan Jacob Spengler and Barbara Reichelderfer.
