John William Gensel (1784-1865) was born January 09, 1784 in Berks County, Pennsylvania, and died October 06, 1865 in Jackson Township, Allen County, Ohio. He married (1) Susan Helwick August 07, 1803 in Pennsylvania, daughter of Adam Helwig and Catharina Carl. He married (2) Rachel Hays August 10, 1854 in Allen County, Ohio.

Children of John William and Susan (Helwick) Gensel are:
Mary, Gideon, Lydia, Catherine, Sarah "Sally," Susanna, John S. Ester, and Elizabeth

Sarah "Sally," (1810-1859) daughter of John William and Susan (Helwick) Gensel, married May 11, 1834 in Pickaway County, Ohio, Enoch Spangler (1801-1890) son of Johan Jacob Spengler and Barbara Reichelderfer.
