Tuesday, 7 October 2008, 6:00-8:00 pm
Main Topic: "First Looks! New Software Releases"
Tips & Tricks:"Digital Photography in Cemeteries"
An amazing list of technology and genealogy announcements happened over this Summer of 2008. Here's our chance to get a look at the new software releases, features, and benefits of Legacy v7, Family Tree Maker 2009, and The Master Genealogist v7. This should be a meeting jam packed with something for everyone.

Also, we'll be trying out a slightly new meeting format. From now on:
  • 6:00-6:20 Open Q & A - Bring your genealogy and technology questions, news, and tidbits to share
  • 6:20-6:40 Genealogy Tips and Tricks - by request we are starting a small meeting (15-30 minutes) segment each month to address various issues.
  • 6:40-8:00 Main Meeting Topic

Tuesday, 4 November 2008, 6:00-8:00 pm
Main Topic: "Moving Families - The Ins and Outs of GEDCOM"
Tips & Tricks: "How Do You Spell That!? Dealing with Alternate Names"
Want to move your data from your old software to the newest thing on the block? Need to share only part of a family file (on your PC) with your cousin (who runs a Macintosh) in Quebec? How about merging that great set of family trees that you found on-line with your own research? We'll address all of this and more. Learn the Pitfalls and Traps BEFORE they happen! Find the best tools for doing the job.   Please remember to VOTE before you come to the meeting!

Tuesday, 2 December 2008, 6:00-8:00 pm
Main Topic: "Utility Software - What's New? How Does it Help?"
Tips & Tricks:"How Do You Spell That!? Dealing with Alternate Names"
Every couple of years we move away from the primary genealogy database software wars and revisit this subject of other useful applications. Since software changes so rapidly, we've got a lot of truely cool tools to discuss. Chart makers, GEDCOM file viewers, dictation tools, journal writers, image management packages, mapping, CD-DVD Creators, etc. We've got a list all lined up, but we hope that you'll come prepped to tell us about your own favorites and how you use them in genealogical research.

Monday, 12 January 2009, 6:00-8:00 pm
Main Topic: " Pirates, Patriots, & Parnassim" — For the third year running, we'll be joining the Peter Minuit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at their monthly gathering.

Please note the DATE and that RESERVATIONS are a MUST!

This exciting and humorous multi-media lecture/discussion is built on individual stories of adventure, spirituality, and commerce in colonial America. Along the way we'll meet several Jewish individuals and their communities, each of whom influenced this country's early development, through mercantile pursuits, patriotism, heroism, and faith. Their stories are the stepping off point for exploring the grand scope of "Americans of Jewish Descent 1654-1825" and looking at how many of these families are now tied to other early American lineages. SIG Chair David M. Kleiman will be presenting the evening's program.

The meeting will not be in our regular space but will be in the neighborhood. Exact address and directions will be forwarded when you make your reservations.

FOR RESERVATIONS: Send a private email (not to the list) to [email protected]
  1. Please include your full name and a daytime contact phone number. We will respond to received reservations via return email.
  2. If you want to bring a guest or two, make sure that you include their names, emails, and telephone numbers.
  3. If you would like to join us for Pizza snacks during the meeting, please bring $2 per person to share costs.
