I believe that this David is the David the son of William Cox. This is because
I (Stanley Wilde, 11 Oct. 1992) know that:
1. William David Cox's parents are David and Nancy Cox
(per marriage certificate)
2. 1880 Census doesn't have the Father as part of the
house hold
3. William Cox's will specifies William the Lawful heir
of David
4. Family tradition (even though it is a couple of
generations old) has a couple of Uncles that died
in the battle of Chancellorville, and David, along
with his brother Hiram were killed their, i.e.
the father and an Uncle.

I don't have any firm proof that the Nancy Turner Cox mentioned in the cemetery
record is the mother of William David Cox. I feel fairly confident that she
is because:
1) The year of birth is the same
a. 1880 census would have W.D.'s mother born
around 1838,
b. The cemetery record has her born in 1838
2) The only David Cox that I have found, married
to a Nancy is David Cox is W.D.'s father
