Sheriff of Essix and Hereford, 1423. Fought at the battle of Agin Court. A helmet said to have been part of his armour was preserved in a church or chapel in England. Above the helmet is the Tyrrell Crest, a boar's head with a peacock's tail issuing from the mouth.
An internet site: http://www.familychronicle.com/index.html has a copy of the Agin Court Honor Roll. They list about 1200 names of the 5700 participants. The only Terrill listed is a "William Terell", but they don't have all of the names. This could be a brother of Thomas.
Dicken does not name the first wife of
Thomas, but simply states that his second wife was Elizbeth Flambert; I assume from this that she is the mother of John.

"Of Great Thornden, Essex" Living at the time of Edward III. He was the Governor of Carisbrooke, which he defended against the French 1378. I have tried to estimate the dates of birth of these Tyrrells...none were given by Dicken. I am concerned that this Sir Hugh would have to be born no later than 1310 to fit in the line, which would make him 68 years old when he defended the town. From Hugh downward for several generations, each generation is only 20 years apart in order to fit everyone in. Hugh's grandson, Thomas, was Sheriff of Essex in 1423, only 45 years after Hugh defended Carisbrooke. Thomas's grandson Thomas was Sheriff of Essex in 1460, only 37 years after his grand- father was Sheriff. This latter Thomas's great-grandson Humphrey married in 1519, only 59 years to span the period from 1460, covering 3 generations. Either there are some extra persons in this line, or everyone married quite young (which is a real possibility).
