Visser Family History and Information

Arnold Visser was born in April 1829, to Arnold Visser and Hermena Mares of Holland. He did at least have one stepbrother; as for any other siblings, I don't know! He married his first wife Margaret about 1855 in either Holland or Germany. She was born close to the year 1834 to parents not known at this time. At some point of Arnold's life he moved from Holland to Oldenburg, Germany to live. He could have moved to Germany as a child with his parents, as a single young man, or as a married adult with children. Arnold and Margaret had at least four children. They were Anna (1857), Henak (1859), Henry Bernard (1860) in Germany, and John (1865) in Germany.

Early in July 1868, Arnold, Margaret, and their four children went to a port in Liverpool, England. They boarded a ship named Denmark with a destination of the USA. This ship arrived in New York harbor on August 20, 1868. They were living in Cincinnati before December 1868 where and when his wife and two older children passed away. They are buried in Old St. Joseph's cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Leaving Arnold with his two youngest sons to raise.

Arnold would marry his second wife in 1869. Her name was Anna Marie Beckelman born June 1841 in Hanover, Germany. She arrived in America, probably with her parents in 1867. They had four children, unfortunately they all passed away by 1882. Together they lived in the City of Cincinnati, Ohio, Westside of town. They were members of St. Anthony Church, at 1119 Budd St. They changed their place of residance several times while living in Cincinnati. Some of which were West 6th St., Espanola, Carr St., Gest St., and the majority of their time was spent on Oehler St. Arnold worked first as a common laborer. By 1871 he worked for the C & L Railroad, as a car inspector and car oiler. By 1880, he was the owner of a Grocery&Wine&Beer Saloon, on Oehler St. He retired as a Saloon owner, just before the turn of the century.

Arnold and Anna Marie were married for thirty-three years until her passing in January 1902. She was sixty and a half years old, dying of Chronic Gastronenteritis. John his son, passed away in March 1903 at the age of 38, from a Heart Attack. They are both buried in Arnold's burial lot, at Old St. Joseph's cemetery.

At the age of seventy-four, Arnold married for a third time. He married a fifty-eight year old widow named Elizabeth (Lizzie) Young. They were married on December 16, 1903, in St. Anthony Church, 1119 Budd St. Cincinnati, Ohio.

A little over thirteen months later on February 10, 1905, Arnold passed away, from Diabetic Melletus. He was buried on February 13, 1905, at Old St. Joseph's cemetery, Cincinnati,Ohio. Arnold would leave behind, his wife Lizzie, one son Henry and his wife Elizabeth, and three grandchildren Arnold, Elizabeth and Catherine.
