The father of Gabriel Elkins is unknown but he possibly could be Richard Elkins who was living in Halifax Co. VA at the same time as Thomas Dillard Jr. father of Gabriel's wife Stacy Dillard.

The following was recorded in the Vestry Book of Amtrim Parish of Halifax Co. VA.

On 21 November 1754 at the Vestry held for Amtrim Parish the following is recorded for Richard Elkins.
  • Ordered that one Thousand Pounds Tobacco be paid unto the Church Wardens for the Maintenace of Richard Elkins.
  • Ordered that the Church Wardens Provide for & take care of Richard Elkins who labours under the misforture of losing the use of a leg.

On 16 Janry. 1755 at the Vestry held for Amtrim Parish the following is recorded for Richard Elkins.

  • The Parish paid to Richd. Elkins (to be in the Church warden's hands) 1000 lbs. of Tobacco.

On 20 November 1755 at the Vestry held for Amtrim Parish the following is recorded for Richard Elkins.

  • Ordered that the Collector pay Merry Webb One thousand pounds of tobacco which was Levyed last Year for Richard Elkins and Assigned to said Webb. (Merry Webb was the grandfather of Stacy Dillard)

"In 1753 Thomas Calloway and others were ordeded to view the improvements made on Leatherwood Creek (Henry County) by Ralph Elkins, and found 26 acres under cultivation, 20 head of neat cattle, fences, orchards, buildings and other improvements to the values of 396 lbs.
