The names of Jesse, Jessy, Ralph, James and Gabriel appear in the early records in Halifax and Pittsylvania counties of Virginia. It is believed that they were from this area because Gabriel Elkins married first Stacy Dillard and second Sophia Dillard, a cousin to his first wife. The Dillard family was also from the Halifax and Pittsylvania counties. As families seem to travel together it is my belief that these Elkins are related somehow. Some researchers believe that Gabriel had two brothers, James and Ralph.
