RYE - George O. Philbrick, 78, of Rye, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 25, 1927, in Gloucester, Mass., a son of the late George O. and Helen (Call) Philbrick.

Mr. Philbrick was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He served aboard the USS Brinkley Bass in the Pacific and received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon.

After the war, he attended the Davis Technical Institute in Dover and worked in Hampton as a mechanic.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary (Ahern) Philbrick; five children, George "Rick" Philbrick and his wife, Susan, of Stratham, Susan Philbrick Tiffany and her husband, Mark, of Amesbury, Mass., Kathleen Philbrick Kirouac and her husband, Robert, of Deerfield, Daniel Philbrick and his wife, Jennifer, of Dover, David Philbrick and his wife, Susan, of Newington; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth N. Philbrick and his wife, Sandra, of Portsmouth; his sister, Eleanor Ward of Hampton, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Jackie Philbrick, in 1955.

WE REMEMBER: In 1955, he opened Philbrick?s Garage in Rye, which he operated until 1964. In 1965, he founded Philbrick?s Sales and Service, Inc., and was owner, operator and president until he retired in 1993.

Mr. Philbrick was a communicant of St. Theresa Church, past director of the Portsmouth Youth Hockey, charter member and past vice president of the Rye Lions Club, a member of the Northeast Businessmen?s Association, Northeast Gasoline Retailers Association and the North Hampton Businessmen?s Association.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road, Rye Beach, on Thursday, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Central Cemetery, Rye. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seacoast Visiting Nurse Association, 29 Lafayette Road, North Hampton, NH, 03862. He was buried on 5 January 2006 at Central Cemetery in Rye, Rockingham, New Hampshire.3375
