Benjamin Franklin GUEST was born 1807, SC. Mary P. VARNER was born 28 October 1805, GA. They were married about 1820. They had moved to Georgia by 1835 when Sarah Adeline was born. On the 1850 Census Benjamin is listed as an Overseer. Children of this marriage are:
Benjamin enlisted as a private in the Civil War, a substitute for R. A. McDonald, on 2 May 1862, Company F, 53d Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantriy Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A., Henry County, Georgia Dixie Guards. He was killed 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg, MD on the first day of the Battle of Antietam. Mary died 28 Mar 1889, Madison Co, GA, and is buried in Jones Chapel Cemetery, Madison Co, GA. |
James Martin GUEST, the son of Benjamin F. GUEST and Mary P. VARNER, daughter of George VARNER and Mary DOBBINS, was born 21 April 1829 in Georgia. Mary M BOND, the daughter of John Rowsey BOND and Milla SMITH, was born 21 February 1832 in Georgia. James and Mary M were married 13 August 1863, Madison Co, GA, and had these children:
James M. Guest enlised as a private on 2 July 1861 in Henry County, GA, Company G., 19th GA Inf., CSA. He transferred on 11 January 1862 from Co. G. to Co. A. He was taken a prisoner of war on 19 August 1864 at Weldon Railroad, VA. On 14 October 1864 he took the Oath of Allegiance at Point Lookout, MD. He enlisted in Regiment RA on 14 October 1864. Mary died 8 November 1872 and is buried in the Bond Cemetery, Collins Farm, Madison Co, GA. James married second Sarah E. KING, daughter of John B. KING and Mary E. HALL, 15 June1873 in Madison County, GA. Sarah was born in 1840. They were the parents of these children:
James served as High Bailiff of the Fork District in Madison County. He died 16 July 1899 and is buried in Vineyard Creek Cemetery, Madison County, GA. Sarah died in 1915 and is reported to be buried in the Vineyard Creek Cemetery although there is no stone to mark her grave. |
