BENJAMIN F. GUEST and MARY P. VARNER

Benjamin Franklin GUEST was born 1807, SC. Mary P. VARNER was born 28 October 1805, GA. They were married about 1820. They had moved to Georgia by 1835 when Sarah Adeline was born. On the 1850 Census Benjamin is listed as an Overseer.

Children of this marriage are:

  1. Martha A. GUEST, born 1829; married 27 March 1853 Thomas W. DEAN, son of Thomas DEAN and Elizabeth.
  2. Salina Jane GUEST, born 22 December1829, SC; died 2 October 1854; married
    2 October1848 Washington Floyd HILL.
  3. Nancy Caroline GUEST, born 1832, SC.; married 16 September 1851 Marshall DAVID, Madison Co., GA, son of Samuel DAVID and Harriet
  4. William G., born 1834, SC; married Mary A.
  5. Sarah Adeline GUEST, born 29 September 1835, GA, died 23 November 1903, Madison Co, GA, buried Jones Chapel, Madison Co, GA, married 24 February 1853 Nathan Collins BOND, son of Easom BOND and Mary ROWSEY..

  7. James Martin GUEST, born 21 April 1839, GA, died 16 July 1899, Madison Co, GA, buried Vineyard Creek Cemetery, Madison Co, GA, married 1. Mary M. BOND 13 August 1863, Madison Co, GA, daughter of John Rowsey BOND and Milla SMITH; 2. Sarah E. KING, 15 June 1873, Madison Co, GA, daughter of John B KING and Mary E HILL.

Benjamin enlisted as a private in the Civil War, a substitute for R. A. McDonald, on 2 May 1862, Company F, 53d Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantriy Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A., Henry County, Georgia Dixie Guards. He was killed 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg, MD on the first day of the Battle of Antietam.

Mary died 28 Mar 1889, Madison Co, GA, and is buried in Jones Chapel Cemetery, Madison Co, GA.

JAMES MARTIN GUEST and MARY M. BOND

James Martin GUEST, the son of Benjamin F. GUEST and Mary P. VARNER, daughter of George VARNER and Mary DOBBINS, was born 21 April 1829 in Georgia. Mary M BOND, the daughter of John Rowsey BOND and Milla SMITH, was born 21 February 1832 in Georgia.

James and Mary M were married 13 August 1863, Madison Co, GA, and had these children:

  1. Mary Cornelia GUEST, born 8 June 1866; married James W. EATON.
  2. Alice Melinda Frances GUEST, born 8 April 1868, Elbert Co, GA; died 7 December 1939, Bluestone Community, Madison Co, GA; buried Jones Chapel Cemetery, Madison Co, GA; married Lawyer Jasper BERRYMAN, son of Wilson Penn BERRYMAN and Elizabeth Jane DEAN, 10 December 1893, Madison Co, GA.
  3. Olivia L. GUEST, born 1870, GA; married Dennis STEPHENS
  4. John R. GUEST, born 1872, GA

James M. Guest enlised as a private on 2 July 1861 in Henry County, GA, Company G., 19th GA Inf., CSA. He transferred on 11 January 1862 from Co. G. to Co. A. He was taken a prisoner of war on 19 August 1864 at Weldon Railroad, VA. On 14 October 1864 he took the Oath of Allegiance at Point Lookout, MD. He enlisted in Regiment RA on 14 October 1864.

Mary died 8 November 1872 and is buried in the Bond Cemetery, Collins Farm, Madison Co, GA.

James married second Sarah E. KING, daughter of John B. KING and Mary E. HALL, 15 June1873 in Madison County, GA. Sarah was born in 1840. They were the parents of these children:

  1. James Henry GUEST, died 28 April 1931, Atlanta, GA; married Maud COLLINS, daughter of William E. COLLLINS and Barbara Jane "Cush" MOON, 11 Dec 1898, Elbert County, GA
  2. William Sandford GUEST, died Jackson, MS; married Laura E. COLLINS, daughter of William E. COLLLINS and Barbara Jane "Cush" MOON, 21 Feb 1892, Elbert County, GA They were divorced and Laura married John ANDERSON
  3. Ada GUEST, married W. Green NIX 8 Dec. 1898, Madison Co., GA
  4. Clarence Daniel GUEST born 15 Jan 1880, Madison Co., GA, died 13 Mar 1963, Clarke Co., GA; married Adeline "Addie" CHRISTIAN 13 June 1905, Madison Co., GA

James served as High Bailiff of the Fork District in Madison County. He died 16 July 1899 and is buried in Vineyard Creek Cemetery, Madison County, GA.

Sarah died in 1915 and is reported to be buried in the Vineyard Creek Cemetery although there is no stone to mark her grave.
