Family Record of William P. Hendrick & Nancy S. Berryman

This is a digital photo copy of an original hand-written record in reference to the family of WILLIAM P. HENDRICK and NANCY S. BERRYMAN who were married March 8, 1838 in Madison Co. Georgia.

Upon viewing, it is readily evident that this family information was scribed by someone using a lead pencil on this now aged, yellowed, and fragile paper. It appears to have been written on a lined page from an early school-type writing pad. However aged, the page is in fair shape and the script is still clear. It is noted that, as compared to the script of the main text, some scribbled information was added in the margins, probably at later dates. These small added notations appear to be in the handwriting of two other different individuals. Although the exact composition, date, and author of this original family documentation remains open to speculation… there is some known information about the path by which it came to be with me, its present guardian. Tracing the path backwards, the following is what is now known by this writer who now has possession of it.

The document arrived in my hands by way of my mother, the 88 year old great grand-daughter of William P. Hendrick and Nancy S. Berryman. It came to my mother as a designated gift from her aunt, Emma Drucilla Hendrick (Cook) who was the first-born child of William Sanford Hendrick and Perluna Edwards. William Sanford Hendrick was the son of William P. Hendrick and Nancy S. Berryman.

Among family members, it is generally believed that this hand-written family document (shown in the above picture) was copied from the family bible of William P. Hendrick and Nancy Berryman. It is said this paper had been found tucked inside a Hendrick Family Bible which had been in the possession of William Sanford Hendrick and his wife, Perluna Edwards, before William Sanford's death. According to family conversations heard long ago, by my mother when she was a young woman , it was strongly believed that this Hendrick- Berryman Family Bible later came to be in the possession of Emma Drucilla Hendrick Cook, the eldest child of William Sanford and Perluna Edwards Hendrick. It is believed that it may remain in the possession of a still-living descendent of Emma Drucilla Hendrick and her husband, William M. Cook. However, so far, this has not been completely confirmed. Emma and Will were married on the 25th day of November, 1900 in Cullman Co. where they resided until their deaths.
