Tower Bells

The church's chief glory is its posture on the hilltop overlooking Goss Moor and visible from miles around. Walk around the churchyard and see the views across to Castle-an-Dinas and Roche Rock.

Whilst you are outside, notice the lovely Celtic Cross with its strange carvings, and the Saxon font, older than the present church, which is further proof of the continuing use of this site over many centuires. Notice, too, the unusual outside staircase to the Norman tower (most tower stairs are inside), and the curious double doorway to the tower. Inside the tower are eight bells, dating from 1450 to 1938 and rung weekly for services and twice weekly for practices.

What you see inside is almost entirely new because the church was burnt down in 1985 and re-opened in 1987. It was lovingly re-created by the people who use it for their worship each Sunday. The church is dedicated to the French martyr-bishop, killed for his faith in Paris in 258, though some say that the dedication is more likely to be a corruption of the Cornish word for hill-fort - dinas. However, there is a very old figure of a bishop, opposite and angel, high up in the church.
