NOVEMBER 14, 2002 Letter to the Editor To the Editor: I read the article in The Covington News about the rebuilding of the Porterdale gym. I think that is the best idea that I have heard lately. The old building has taken a beating and is still going strong. It is still a nice building. I have worked on the leaking roof of that building, and it till leaked. It's just how the flat part was installed the first time. I guess it will always leak. It seems to draw up around the edges and never settles down again. But it is still the best build building that I know of. I promoted wrestling for several years and came to know a lot of wrestlers. A year of two ago, late one night around 11 p.m., the phone rang and the caller asked for Adell Digby. I said, "This is he." I cannot recall the caller's name, but he owned a company and I have had his wrestlers at the gym a lot of times. He said that he knew that I did not have wrestling in the gym at Porterdale any more, but he thought I and the people of Porterdale as well as all the wrestlers that are here tonight should know that there have been more of the big time wrestlers in that gym than in any other arena in the United States or in the world as far as he knew. I just thought you would like to know. And I do appreciate him taking up the time and thinking enough of the people of Porterdale to tell them so. But I had no way to tell them all. I told those whom I came in contact with. Adell Digby Covington |
