2. Addison Monroe Wakefield,¹ ^,2 son of Henry L. Wakefield and Eliza Jane Kirby, was born on August 12, 1858 in Difficult, Smith County. Tennessee, died on November 27, 1947 in Mangum , Greer County, Oklahoma, at age 89,³ and was buried on December 2, 1947 in Lone Wolf, Kiowa County, Cemetery.⁴ The cause of his death was died from Throat Cancer.⁵

General Notes: There is some question as to the name of Addison Monroe Wakefield,

According to Harry M. Cleveland who has did a lot of research on the Wakefields has his name as Monroe Addison Wakefield, he is also listed in the 1860 Smith County, Tennessee census as Munroe, and he is listed as Adason M. Austin in the 1870 Census, This should read Addison M. Austin.

As we remember my father saying that they had recorded his name wrong at birth, he used the name of Addison M. Wakefield and all the documentation we have is listed as Addison M. Wakefield he also signed his name as A.M. Wakefield, and that is how we knew him. Since we can't prove or disaprove it we are going with A.M. Wakefield.

MRS. GLADYS WAKEFIELD Mrs. Gladys Wakefield, 34, died at a local hospital Sunday at 7 a.m. Funeral services were held Monday at 3 p.m. from Lightning Ridge; burial in Lightning Ridge cemetery, Christswell Funeral Ilome in charge. Surviving are the husband, A. M. Wakefield. Ada route 1, a son Eldin Wakefield: mother, Mrs. Ida Fite of Ada; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Rountree of Marlow and Mrs. Dermic Citron of Coalgate: six brothers, Carl Solomon of Vanoss. Dave Solomon of MarIow, J. P. Soldmon of Roswell, N. Mex.: Alvin. J. D. and Mark Solomon of Ada.

Gladys May Solomon, daughter of Aaron Woolsey Solomon and Ida Lee Jones, was born on May 19, 1907 in Vanoss, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, died on December 7, 1941 in Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, at age 34,⁹ and was buried on December 8, 1941 in Lightning Ridge Cemetery.⁷ The cause of her death was died from Appendix Rupture.

4. Henry L. Wakefield,¹⁰ son of John W. Wakefield and Sarah Cummins, was born about 1825 in Wittchers Crossroads, Smith County, Tennessee and died on August 15, 1858 in Smith County, Tennessee, about age 33.

General Notes: At this point we are not sure of Henry's Middle name we have seen it listed as an L, B, and Moses so at this point we are not sure of his middle name.

His Name could have been Moses H. Wakefield
Moses H. Wakefield listed as poll with John Wakefield. Could be the male 15-20 on the 1840 census.

Not sure if place of Death or Marriage is Defeated or Difficult.

We remember my father telling me that his father was killed working in a saw mill or lumber yard seems like we can remember him saying a pile of logs fell on him. and this was how he met his death.

After being converted to the christian faith he was united with the Free Will Baptist church and became a minister of the gospel, His life was one of love and service and he leaves many friends and relatives to mourn his departure.

A. M. Solomon died at his home at Vanoss early yesterday morning. Funeral Services were held at Vanoss today, Mr. Solomon was 76 years old and was a well-known altiman in the western part of the country.

Aaron married Tempe Jane Price , daughter of William Brumley. Price and Rebecca Egman, on December 3, 1882 in Collin County, Texas. Tempe was born on October 24, 1853 in Missouri, died on June 20, 1884 in Blue Ridge, Texas, at age 30, and was buried in Old Grounds Cemetery, Blue Ridge, Texas.

Mrs Ida Flte passed away Saturday night, January 29, at the home of her drughter, Mrs Fred Citron at the age of 81. Her home was at Vanoss. but due to her age she has been living here since September of last year. She leaves to mourn her death two daughters. Mrs Edith Roundtree of Cortez, Colo. and Mrs. Fred Citron of Coalgate; and six sons, Carl Solomon, of Vanoss, Dave Solomon of Forster, Okla. Bud Solomon of Oklahoma City, Mark Solomon of Hayden, Ariz. J. D. Solomon of Hobbs, New Mexico. J. P. Solomon of Roswell, New. Mexico. All were able to attend the funeral except one daughter, Mrs. Edtth Roundtree. Also one brother Dub Jones brother of Phillips, Okla., and three sistera, Mrs, Joe Catheart of Cottonwood, and a twin sister. General Notes: John F. Jones and Sarah left Illinois about 1870 and headed west they went to Kansas and then onto Texas they traveled in a covered wagon. John worked for the Railroad as a Buffalo hunter providing meat for the workers, His nephew still has his rifle a 45 70 Sharps Rifle Hexagon Barrel. this story was told to me by J.D. Smith a grandson of Pearl Wheeler.

John F. Jones entered the service at Hillsboro, Ill. on the 3rd day of March 1865 as a private in company F in the 47 Regiment Illinois Infantry, he was discharged at Demoplis, Alabama on the 21st day of January 1866. This information is also on his Tombstone. We also have all of his Military Pension Records.

The information on the Jones family came from Edith [Wheeler] Smith and family names and information came from the family bible and news paper clippings,Coal County Genealogy Soceity, Various census recoeds, visiting cemeterys, Lots of phone calls and a lot of new found relatives.

Johns burial is listed in the OHS "Civil War Union Soldiers burried in Oklahoma" by
Dale Talkington and Deone K Pearcy.

It has come to my attention that John F. Jones name was Johnathan Franklin Jones. this information was given to me by Carolyn Cameron who got this information from Opal Jones who was the daughter of Oliver Pervis Jones son of John F. Jones. we have no records to prove any of this.

SARAH JONES PASSED AWAY SATURDAY ------------------------------------------------------------ ------- In the death of Mrs Sarah E. Jones, in her 83rd year, Saturday at the home of Mrs W.H. Wheeler. There passed away a mother of Israel, four score and three years of age, A pioneer, who lived untill that day when 97 relatives might attend her funeral, A member ofthe Methodist church since 13 years of age and a devoted christain during all these years. Mrs Jones was born in Irving Ill. in the year of 1841, on September 8, 1859 was united in marriage to John F. Jones, to this union there were born five sons and six daughters, thoes left to mourn her loss, Mrs w.h. wheeler, Coalgate, Mrs Joe Carthcart, Coalgate, Mrs Ida Fite, Strafford, Mrs Bell Johnson, Ft. Cobb, and Mr H. S. Jones route 2, Coalgate and a host of other relatives and friends who attended the funeral. Mrs Jones was stricken with paralysis and died Saturday at 7:15 o'clock, funeral services were conducted at the home of W.H. Wheeler Sunday by Rev. f.s. Ross. pastor of the First Baptist church in Coalgate, C.T. Towery leading the song service,

Slater funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at Lehigh cemetery beside her husband John F. Jones

Fifth Generation

16. Henry Wakefield,¹¹ son of Charles Wakefield Sr. and Elizabeth Moore, was born in May 1752 in Albemarle County, Virginia, died on November 13, 1850 in Gibbs Crossroads, Macon County, Tennessee, at age 98, and was buried in Jones/Wakefield Cemetery, Macon County, Tennessee.

General Notes: All of Henry's daughters were said to have "Scriptural" names.

Henry Wakefield served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. There were eight children by his first marriage and eleven children by his second marriage.

Henry Wakefield was in the 1840 Census of Pensioners or Military Service

Henry Wakefield (spelled Weakfield) on some early records) was born May 1752 in Albemarle co, Virginia, a son of Charles and Elizabeth (Moore) Wakefield. He moved to Burke County North Carolina at an early age and enlisted in Captain William Penlan's Troop in September 1775. He was stationed for two month's at "Cathey's Fort." He then marched across the Blue Ridge Mountains against the Cherokee Indians and while with a hunting party shot one of them but while reloading his gun, received a shot in the back from another Indian and was left as dead by others in his company. He evidently was recovered fully because his pension record says he next enlisted in Captain Thomas Kennedy's Troop of Light Horse and served on short tours. He then enlisted in Captain John Russel's Company, Colonel Joseph McDowell's Regiment and served about 5 months, during which he received a slight wound in his mouth. For all this service he was given credit for one years service on the pension record.
Henry Wakefield was first married to Elizabeth Alexander, daughter of William and Elizabeth Alexander on March 20, 1778, place and date of her death are not known. Henry Wakefield then married Mary, on October 25, 1791 in Burke Co., North Carolina. She was born January 23, 1773. the place of her birth is not known and there is not actual proof of her maiden name but on her application for pension after her husband's death she states that James Simpson, age 82, residing in White Co., Tennessee is a "Near relation." Henry Wakefield died November 13, 1850 in Macon Co., Tennessee, the date of his wife Mary's death is not known. Since Macon Co., Tennessee was from Smith County in 1842, it is thought that Henry had not moved the county had just changed. The above information was from the Revolutionary War Pension record of Henry and Mary Wakefield.

32. Charles Wakefield Sr.,¹⁷ son of Abel Wakefield Jr and Mary Ann Ratcliff, was born about 1722 in Charles County, Maryland and died in June 1815 in Burke County, North Carolina, about age 93.

General Notes: Burial: Linville Valley, Burke, North Carolina Reference 1392

Charles Wakefield, Sr. was probably born in Charles County, Md. In 1752 Charles and Elizabeth Wakefield were living in Albermarle County, Md. when their son Henry was born. The muster roll of the Albermarle County, Virginia Milita in 1758 lists Charles Wakefield as a sergeant and several other Wakefield's as privates. When their son Thomas was born October 5 1762 the were still living in Albermarle County. The Wakefield's moved to Rowan County, North Carolina before the Revolutionary War. Charles, John, John Jr, Moses, Henry Jr, and Henry Wakefield all signed a petition to Governor Josia Martin and the Council and House of Burgesses of North Carolina asking that a new county be formed from Rowan County, North Carolina, This new county was Burke County, North Carolina formed in 1777.
As a justice of the peace Charles Wakefield served as a judge in the Burke County court of Pleas and quarter Sessions. He had considerable holdings of land and engaged in farming. In July 1815 session of Burke County court letters of administration were issued on the estate of Charles Wakefield Sr, deceased to Charles Wakefield Jr. and Charles Collet. His wife Elizabeth had died previously.

Passenger List: June 23, 1635 in Gravesend, Kent Co. England; Embarked in the ship "America," William Barker, Master. A certificate from the minister of the town of Gravesend, County of Kent, England, of conformity to the order and discipline of the Church of England. (Note: Thomas Wakefield is included on Hotten's original list of emigrants to America.) Immigrated in 1635 to Norfolk VA.

"Proceedings of the Assembly 1678-1683. An act for the payment and assessing the public charges of this province. Eight hundred ninety-five thousand nine hundred and seventy-nine pounds of tobacco have been expended in the late expedition against the Nanticoke Indians. Order an assessment, etc. Here follows lists of names with amounts. November 1678 (p101) Thomas Wakefield, Charles County, 300 pounds tobacco. The will of Johnathan MARLER dated 29 July 1673 and probated 24 December 1673, left his property in Manchester, England, to his brothers in England, and left most of his property in America including his 180 acre plantation in Maryland named "Manchester" to Thomas Wakefield. So, Jonathan Marler must have been his father-in -law. (Or his brother-in-law.)

In BURKE'S HISTORY OF THE LANDED GENTRY, (1939 edition) American Families, Sherman Day Wakefield wrote: "John Wakefield, sailed from Gravesent, Kent, 23 July 1635, on the ship AMERICA with Thomas Wakefield, settled in Charles County, Maryland, and John Wakefield was living at Edgartown, Martha's Vinyard, before 1647." In John Camden Hotten's book, THE ORIGINAL LIST OF PERSONS OF QUALITY, the passenger list of the AMERICA showed only Thomas.
Land Patents of Maryland: Thomas Wakefield of Virginia patent of 1676 Charles County, *Hester Wakefield wife of Thomas patent of 1677 in Charles County.

**Information given to Kim Davis by Omer McGee gave list of children who were children of Hester and Thomas. He also said that Thomas landed in Norfolk, VA when he came from England.
