      R-260: WHEREAS, James M. Damagh and wife Margaret of Lewis Co. KY did on 11 Nov. 1864 leased to Daniel Fitzgerald the right to obtain oil out of and fram the land belonging to said Damagh and fully described therein, recorded in Lewis Co. KY; and that Daniel Fitzgerald afterwards on 6 Feb. 1865 sold to Joseph B. Wakeley of Village of Yonkers, State of NY, the undivided 3/4 of his interest in the lease, which assignment is also recorded in Lewis Co., and said Joseph B. Wakeley subsequently sold to Edward H. Bowyer of City of New York all the undivided 3/4 of the lease, which assignment is also recorded in Lewis Co., and that the said Daniel Fitzgerald on 14 Feb. 1865 sold to Edward Bowyer the other undivided 1/4 of his interest in the lease, which assignment is also recorded in Lewis Co., by which several assignments all the entire interest of said Fitzgerald in the lease has become vested in said Edward Bowyer; and Davis S. Duncomb and Joshua C. Sanders of City of New York claim the right to one undivided half interest in the lease by agreement between said David S. Duncomb and Joshua C. Sanders with Daniel Fitzgerald about 2 Nov. 1864; now Edward H. Bowyer for $550 sell and assign to said David S. Duncomb and Joshua C. Sanders one undivided half interest to the lease for the remainder of the term of the lease, as well as all the one half interest in the lease forever; 2 Dec. 1865, /s/ Edwd.H. Bowyer; wit. Edward D.       S-380: 10 Dec. 1868, Alexander Bell and wife Elizabeth J. Bell to Telitha Duncan, all Lewis Co. KY, for $200, 8 acres on waters of Briery Creek that descended to Elizabeth J.       Cataloged under Civil War, 1861-1865, pensions, indexes; does not say if Confederate or Federal, but probably Federal. Negative film, some cards much too faint or dark to read, some cards blurred or faded, particularly the service unit and the dates of application. Most of the very faint or dark cards were in a slightly different format, with space for years enlisted and discharged which were sometimes filled in. Many of these were for service in later years, although one or two were for service ca 1866.
      Name of soldier, alias, name of dependent widow or minor, service (military unit or units), date of filing, class (invalid or widow or minor or other), Application #, Certificate #, state from which filed (sometimes blank), attorney (sometimes blank, MAD: did not usually copy), remarks. Sometimes the "Invalid" or "Widow" class had an "s" added to it before the application #; occasionally the area for the service information included a circled "S". The minor's name was frequently that of the guardian rather than the minor.
      The military unit was frequently the Company Letter, the Regiment Number, sometimes US Vet Vol Inf. (US Veteran Volunteer Infantry), L.A. (Light Artillery), H.A. (Heavy Artillery), US C Inf (US Colored? Infantry), Cav. (Cavalry), Mil. Guards, V.R.C. (?Volunteer Reserve Corps?), etc. Sometimes there were several service units given.
      Cards appear to be arranged by the last name, first name, middle initial if any, and state (including "US") of service.

      W. L. Duncan, a former resident of South Portsmouth who moved to Quincy, Ky., a month ago, died at his home there at 3:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The deceased was ill only a few days with neuralgia and did not take to his bed until about noon Tuesday. At that time a decided change for the worse was noticed and he sent for his children to come to his bedside.
      Mr. Duncan was born in Carter county, Ky. He was 72 years of age February 22 last. Thirty two years ago he was married. His wife, Mary A. Duncan and seven children surviving.
      The children are Mrs. Albert Ramey of South Portsmouth, Minnie, Dora, Parthena and Naomi at home, Arthur at New Boston and Willard at home.
      Duncan was a retired singing teacher and had taught classes at Greenup, Grayson and other places. He had been retired for five years.
      The funeral will be held Thursday morning at Quncy with burial near Carter, Ky, in the family cemetery.
