Will Book H, pg.327-328: January 25th, 1864 - Surveyed for the widow and heirs of W.C. Duncan decd, 156 acres of land lying on the waters of Woolfer and Willoughby creeks, bounded thus:
Beginning at two beach trees near the top of a hill, a corner with Mrs. Foster and Allen Miner, thence with said Miner's lines S 71 deg. W 98 poles to an elm tree and stake on a branch, thence S 62 deg. W 47-2/3 poles to two sugar trees and a buckeye in Allen Miner's line, a corner with Rufus Anderson, thence with said Anderson's lines S 27-3/4 deg. E 102-3/4 poles to a stake; thence N 60 deg. E 14 poles to two white oak trees, thence S 29 deg. E 60-2/3 poles to a stone, a corner with Anderson, Nathan W. Allen & Richard M. Johnson; thence N 58-1/4 deg. Whereas an order was made at the last term of the Boone County Court appointing the undersigned commissioners to survey, divide and allot between and amongst the widow and heirs of W.C. Duncan decd, a certain described tract of land in said county according to the rights and interests of the parties.
Wherefore we met on the 25th instant upon the sd tract of land, and after having been duly sworn as required by law, we proceeded to survey and examine the same, in order to ascertain the number of acres, qualify (MAD: quality?) of the said, extent of improvements, the situation of the timber &c and haveing satisfied ourselves in reference to all the advantages and conveniences we next proceeded to lay off and set apart to Mrs. Mary Jane Duncan for her dower, 44 acres of the said tract including the dwelling house and other buildings, the orchard, a portion of the wood and timber land and also a portion of the cleaned, tillable ground, together with a fair proportion of the fencing on the farm; and the said dower is in our judgement worth one third of the value of the whole tract of land and its appertenances.
We next divided the ballance of the land into three lots of as equal value and convenient forms as our judgements would enable us to make them.
For a description & representation of the whole tract, and also the dower and the three lots into which the ballance of the land is divided we refer to the foregoing surveys report and plat.
Having completed the division, we next set apart the lots to the children (heirs) by drawing tickets, which resulted as follows:

I-331/333: Whereas Lewis Riddell now deceased sold in his lifetime to George Maxfield a tract of land where said Maxfield then lived containing about 73 acres and made a bond dated 17 March 1827 for $850 to make a good warranty for the land upon Maxfield's paying off a note for $600.50 dated 17 March 1827, and George Maxfield endorsed on the title bond assigned the same to Ch. Chambers on 18 March 1829, and Ch. Chambers by written assignment without recourse endorsed the title bond on 29 Dec. 1832 to John Duncan, and Lewis Riddell in his lifetime prosecuted a suit on the notes given by George Maxfield which suit was revived? after the death of Lewis Riddell by his executors and a judgment obtained for the amount of the notes subject to a credit of $130.50 paid by Maxfield to Riddell in his lifetime and John Duncan having paid and secured to be paid the balance of said note, being $600 now due of principal and interest and costs and desiring the executors to make him a deed pursuant to the bond of Lewis Riddell, and the said Lewis Riddell having departed this life and by will appointed Ch. Chambers, John Piate? and his wife Ann Riddell who is since also deceased, his executors, and the executors are satisfied that the consideration money has all been paid or well secured to be paid, to wit, the said $130.50 to Riddell in his lifetime and the balance of $600 to his executors; Therefore this deed 1 April 1833 between said Ch. Chambers and John Piate surviving executors of will of Lewis Riddell decd. to John Duncan, all of Boone Co. He was reared on a farm, received collegiate education at Georgetown. James W. Duncan, a farmer, was elected circuit court clerk in 1874, served until 1880, and our subject was deputy clerk under him. Edwin W. began the study of medicine in 1882 under Dr. Joseph G. Furnish, of Burlington, KY, and attended the medical lectures of the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati, where he graduated in 1885, March 6. He settled in Belleview, KY, for 6 months, then went to Walton, KY, where he continues to practice. Baptist Church, Democrat. June 15, 1887, he married Miss Lizzie Jane Kennedy, of near Walton, KY.
Pg.70-2. THE GRAVES FAMILY, of Kenton. Bartlett Graves, the ancestor of the Graves family, of Kenton Co. KY, and one of the early pioneers of KY, was born in Louisa Co. VA in the year 1766; he was the son of Thomas and Susan (Bartlett) Graves who moved from VA to KY as early as 1785, settling near Bryant's Station, and whose descendants are still numerous in Scott and Fayette Cos. (more on Graves ancestry and family) Bartlett first married Miss Frances Lane, of VA; children: Bartlett, Henry and Polly; Bartlett was a lawyer and lived in Barren Co. near Glasgow, Henry lived near Erlanger and afterward moved to MO, Polly married the late William Grant of Petersburg, Boone Co. Mr. Graves came to Campbell Co., then including Kenton, early in this century. His wife dying, he married Miss Patterson, no children; Left again a widower, he married Miss Betsey Leathers; in 1807 they settled on the farm where the town of Erlanger has recently been laid out. He died in 1858; she in 1867. ... John L. Graves, the eldest son, so long a well known citizen in Kenton and Boone Cos., now lives near Middleton [?Butler Co.], OH, surrounded by an interesting family, the children of his second marriage. His second wife was Miss Martha Lucas, of OH. His first wife was Miss Maria Graves, of Boone Co. KY. The late Mrs. William Duncan, of Burlington [Boone Co.], was one of the daughters of this marriage. Milton W. Graves, the second son of Bartlett and Elizabeth Graves, married Miss Catherine A. Osborne. ... Among great-grandsons of Bartlett Graves are ... Dr. Duncan. (footnote: The notes of the Graves Family were furnished mainly by John L. Graves, Milton W. Graves and Mrs. Anna C. Graves, the three oldest representatives of the name in this branch of the family.)

Pg.736-7: Lewis Co. J.W. Duncan (deceased) was born in Boone Co. KY in 1833. He is the son of Hon. John Duncan, of Scotch origin, and a native of the same State. Our subject was educated at Georgetown College, and in 1853 began reading law under Senator J. Green. He returned to his native State afterward, and finished his studies at the Louisville law school. He then went to what is now Des Moines, Iowa, where he was admitted, and practiced about a year. During this time he married Mattie E., a daughter of Robert and Eliza (Price) Morris, natives of KY, and of Scotch and German descent, respectively. Her father ... died in 1858, a member of the Presbyterian Church, while her mother is still living. Before the war our subject practiced law in Alexandria and Monticello. In 1861 he entered service in the Confederate Army, fell ill in Arkansas, and died in 1864. Their children were Joseph, deceased; Selden, a bank cashier, in Compass, TX; J.L., druggust, of Denison, TX; and Zeta, the wife of Harry Barkelew.
