2. Lavinia (Lovina) SISSON (Thomas ) was born 17 Jul 1801 in South Plymouth, Chenango Co, NY.

Lavinia is mentioned in the probate of Mary E. H. Merchant's will, Norwich, Chenango County, NY, May 17, 1819.

Lavinia married Hiram ATHERTON, son of Cornelius ATHERTON. Hiram was born 1797. He died 19 Mar 1870.

Hiram was a wagonmaker in Afton, then in Norwich, NY, and later a cabinetmaker in Greene, NY. References for Lavinia and Hiram are:

Greene, Chenango Co., NY, 1850 census (shows "Alvina").

They had the following children:

3. Thomas SISSON Jr. (Thomas ) was born 13 Jan 1803. He died 25 Apr 1874 in Smyrna, NY and was buried in Plymouth Cemetery.

Thomas and Margaret had nine children. We have information on only six of them.

Thomas married Margaret. Margaret was born 1809 in Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY.

They had the following children:

Thomas Martin SISSON was born 16 Jan 1842 in Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY. He died 21 Jun 1861.

Thomas, known as T. Martin Sisson, was apparently the sixth child in the family.

Ruth A. SISSON was born 1847 in Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY. She died 10 Feb 1849.

Ruth's death certificate, in the Town of Norwich Records, p. 266, shows that she died of "inflamation of the lungs".

Sarah J. SISSON was born 1850 in Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY. She died 1850 in Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY.

Sarah J. Sisson reportedly died at "four months". She was born in 1850 or 1859 (possible handwriting error).

David is age 23 in the 1870 census in household with his parents in North Norwich, Chenango, NY.

4. Phebe SISSON (Thomas ) was born 25 Aug 1805. She died 20 Aug 1889.

Phebe married Elijah (or Jason) LEWIS. Elijah died 1864.

They had the following children:

5. Jonathan Ervin (Irving) SISSON (Thomas ) was born June 30, 1805 or 1806 in Republic, NY. He died 8 Feb 1868 in Michigan or Indiana.

Jonathan (or Johnathan) Ervin (or Irving) Sisson was a carpenter and probably a Quaker. Jonathan and Charlotta were married before May 2, 1829, the date when transferred land to Jonathan's brother Benjamin.

Jonathan married Charlotta Fidelia FRINK, daughter of William FRINK and Charlotte CRUMB, before 2 May 1829. Charlotta was born 11 Feb 1805 in Massachusetts. She died 25 Jun 1870 in Michigan or Indiana.

Charlotta's surname has also been reported Fink or Finch. She has been reported as Mohawk Indian, in error. Land records in Seneca County, NY, show Charlotte, wife of John, heir to land owned by William Frink. Charlotta's daughter Almeda's marriage license lists her mother as Charlotte Fink. Jonathan's sister Nancy's daughter wrote "Charlotta Finch" on the back of her picture.

8. Humphrey SISSON (Thomas ) was born 22 Oct 1811 in New York. He died 17 Jan 1878.

Humphrey was a wagonmaker and active Methodist. Maria was a weaver and taught private school in her home in Norwich. The Norwich, Chenango Co., NY 1840 and 1860 censuses show Humphrey with $400 in personal property and $1500 in real estate value. Other references for Humphrey and Maria:

Humphrey married Maria Louise PRESTON, daughter of James PRESTON and Nancy, on 16 Sep 1835. Maria was born 6 Feb 1815 in East Hill, Norwich, Chenango Co., NY. She died 1900 in daughter Nancy Smith's home in Plymouth.

Nancy was listed as ELizabeth N. in the 1860 census. She married Leeman W. B. Smith.

9. Henry B. (or K.) SISSON (Thomas ) was born 23 Dec 1813. He died 12 Jan 1856 in Frankfort, NY and was buried in South Plymouth Cemetery, Chenango Co, NY.

Henry married Polly Maria(h) MONROE, daughter of Benjamin Barney MONROE and Abigail. Polly was born 25 Sep 1819 in Aldrich, NY. She died 24 Mar 1915 and was buried in South Plymouth Cemetery, Chenango Co, NY.

They had the following children:

Emily J. SISSON was born 7 Jul 1848 in South Plymouth, Chenango Co, NY. She died 4 Jun 1927.

Emily's first husband was Henry Clark. A second husband has been reported.

11. Alfred SISSON (Thomas ) was born 14 Feb 1819 in South Plymouth, Chenango Co, NY. He died 22 Aug 1888 and was buried in South Plymouth Cemetery, Chenango Co, NY.

Alfred married Mary Eliza EVANS, daughter of Ezekiel EVANS and Mary Moss ADAMS, on 25 Jan 1849 in Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY. Mary was born 1829. She died 21 Apr 1894 and was buried in South Plymouth Cemetery, Chenango Co, NY.

Mary and Alfred were married by E. P. Beecher. Their intent to marry is probably the one published Dec. 9, 1848 by Rev. John Crandall, reported in the Norwich "Chenango Union" newspaper.

They had the following children:

Jonathan A. SISSON "John" was born 19 Dec 1849. He died 1869 and was buried in Potter's Field, North Norwich Cemetery, Norwich, NY.

Adelbert SISSON was born 9 Aug 1861. He died 30 Apr 1937 and was buried in South Plymouth Cemetery, Chenango Co, NY.

Adelbert was not married.

Nelson SISSON was born 22 Feb 1865. He died young and was buried in North Norwich, Chenango Co., NY.

Nellie SISSON was born 22 Feb 1865. She died 6 Jul 1948 and was buried in South Plymouth Cemetery, Chenango Co, NY.

Nellie and Nelson were twins. Nellie never married. She has also been reported as died 1918.

12. Abner Marvin SISSON (Thomas ) was born 11 Apr 1820 in South Plymouth, Chenango Co., NY. He died 4 May 1891 in Wakelee, Cass County, MI and was buried in Poe Cemetery, Newburg Twp, Cass County, MI.

Abner served in the U.S. Navy in the Civil War, enlisting in August of 1864; and was discharged in June, 1865. A Mr. Ripley (yet to be identified) reported that Abner died in the Civil War. Abner died in 1891 in MI. There is a large cemetery stone which has "Abner M., Catherine, Clarissa, Jonathan I., Mary E. J., Eil_ daughter of Irvin, and R. D. died 1871, age 65 years" (probably Abner's brother Richard).

Abner married Catherine Wesley (or Wilsey) BOWERMAN, daughter of Peter BOWERMAN, on 25 Feb 1844 in Republic, Seneca Co., OH. Catherine was born 18 Nov 1823 in NY. She died 6 Feb 1898 in Wakelee, Cass County, MI and was buried in Poe Cemetery, Newburg Twp, Cass County, MI.

They had the following children:

14. James W. SISSON (Thomas ) was born 4 Dec 1823. He died 28 Mar 1899.

James was listed as a butcher in the 1860 census for Norwich, NY. James' second wife was a widow, Fanny M. (Walbridge) Aldrich, a widow with a son and two daughters.

James married (1) Nancy Adelaide before 1858. Nancy was born about 1832 in NY. She died before 1895.

They had the following children:

Andrew SISSON was born 1858.

James also married (2) Fanny WALBRIDGE, daughter of Charles WALBRIDGE and Hannah, on 25 May 1895. Fanny was born 10 Aug 1828 in Bennington, VT. She died 22 Apr 1903.

Fanny was orphaned at age 16 and came to Norwich, NY to live with her cousin, Hiram Haynes. She taught school in Aldrich, NY.
