S.P. Bridwell was the son of Fielding Bridwell and Patsy Briscoe. He married Emily Melissa Sugg, daughter of George A. Sugg and Elizabeth Walker, 18 Jul 1865 Henderson Co KY.

They had one daughter, Emily, born in Apr 1866, when Philip Bridwell was struck down by cholera aboard a ship carrying tobacco to New Orleans. At left is his stone in Shady Grove Cemetery in Poole.

Emily married 2) Joseph Arthur Quinn, the son of John Jackson Quinn and Julia Ann Rayburn, 18 Nov 1868 Henderson Co, and they became the parents of nine children.
