DeHart HISTORY

A GENEALOGICAL STUDY OF THE DEHART FAMILY

SIMON DEHART THROUGH STEPHEN H. DEHART

BY: THOMAS DAY DEHART

SIMON DE HART SR.

I have very little information on the older Simon DeHart. The only record I have of him is in the letter in the DeHart Association Book from Nathan DeHart to Martin DeHart. I believe the information to be correct because Nathan was writing about his grandfather - the elder Simon DeHart and his (Nathan's) father, Elias DeHart.

According to the letter, Simon DeHart, Sr. was married to Aylse Eleson. They had three - Simon Jr., Elias, and Aaron. They were supposed to have had four daughters but none of their names were mentioned in the letter.

I believe that if the four brother story is indeed true, the elder Simon DeHart may not have come to this country with his sons. Instead he may have lived and died in their old homeland in France.

There was one part of the Nathan DeHart letter that if true will disprove part of the four brother theory. Nathan only mentioned Simon DeHart Sr. as having three sons - Simon, Jr., Elias, and Aaron. A fourth son is not mentioned.

There are many unanswered questions about Simon DeHart, Sr. which I have not been able to solve. I only hope that I will be able to find out some of the unknown details of this member of the DeHart family.

One further point regarding Simon, Sr. Elias DeHart was born in 1730, according to Nathan. So if the Older Simon was from 20-30 years of age at the birth of his second born son, he could have been born any time between 1690 and 1700, but this is somewhat speculative.
