| The 1900 Federal Census for Lost
Creek Twp., Platte County shows that John was born Jan 1840 and
Catherine was born Jan 1842, both in Austria Poland. They both
immigrated in 1887. John and Catherine were married 33 years at the
time, giving a calculated marriage year of 1867, so they were married
before they immigrated. At the time of this census Catherine was the
mother of seven children, six of them were living. Using the dates from the census, I found the birth records and the marriage record for John and Catherine in the LDS microfilms for the villages of Łęki Górne and Łęki Dolne. Anna SLIWA nee PODRAZA, was a daughter of Jozef and Catharina FIRMUGA PODRAZA, born May 1853 in Poland (per 1900 Nebraska census). According to the 1900 Nebraska Platte County census, Anna was a widow, mother of nine children, eight of whom were living. She was enumerated with Frank and Teena HANZEL, relationship was given as "Mother". Also enumerated with this household were Johnnie, age 12, born Jan 1888, Nebraska; Joe, age 10, born November 1889, Nebraska; Carry, age 14, born February 1886, Nebraska; and Lela, age 7, born April 1893, Nebraska. | |
