Elias Truax was the son of Jacob Truax and Lysbet de la Grange. Elias Truax was born on 15 July 1727 at Norman's Kill, NY. He was baptized on 12 November 1727 at Schenectady, NY.2 He married Ariaantje Jansen on 29 January 1754 at Schenectady, NY.3 Elias Truax married Engeltje Evertsen on 12 March 1758.4 Elias Truax married Nancy McKinney on 12 November 1775.5 Elias Truax died on 26 December 1820 at Franklin, VT.       Elias Truax was also known as Julius Truax.4 Elias Truax was also known as Gillis Truax. He moved to Canada circa 1792. He was said to be "the first who felled trees in the Township of Dunham." He asked for and received a grant of land at Brome Twp., QC as an 'associate' (Land in the Eastern Townships of Quebec was granted to groups rather than to individuals. The group would be granted an entire township, which they would divide amongst themselves, and they would promise to clear and improve their lot, build roads, etc.) on 19 August 1797. He is recognized as a United Empire Loyalist (Sir John Johnson Branch UELAC, Quebec), although his qualifications are not known.
