JOSIAH STANSBOROUGH

Josiah Stansborough was an inhabitant of Lynn, MA in 1637, in Southampton in 1644, as his name is on the whaling list of March 7 of that year, and was made freeman in this town Sept. 7, 1647, having had the apparently customary trial of three years' residence before attaining the right to vote and hold office. In 1658 he had a residence in Sagg. The title of Mr. is attached to his name on the records.

1 Josiah d. in Sagg 1661, m. a 2nd w. Alice, widow of Thomas Wheeler, and had ch. 2 Peregrine b. 1640, 3 Mary, 4 Sarah, 5 Josiah and four other young ch. in 1661, when he made his will - these four may have been the ch. of Mrs. Stansborough by her first husband.

2 Peregrine d. Jan. 15, 1701-2, m. Dec. 15, 1664, Sarah, d. of Rev. Thomas James of East Hampton, and had ch. 6 John b. Dec. 11, 1665, 7 Ruth b. June 4, 1668, 8 Olive b. July 18, 1670, 9 Mary b. Oct. 14, 1672, w. of Jonathan Strickland, 10 Hannah b. Jan. 28, 1674, w. of John Lupton, 11 Sarah b. May 26, 1677, w. of James Herrick 12 James b. Oct. 28, 1679, m. Sarah Edwards of East Hampton, 13 Eunice b. Nov. 8, 1682, 14 Elizabeth b. Jan. 24, 1686, 15 Ann and 16 Martha.

5 Josiah m. July 24, 1670, Admah (Ann) Chatfield, and removed to Elizabeth, NJ, 1690. He had ch. Recompence b. Aug 22, 1672, Frances b. April 4, 1675, Josiah b. June 22, 1677, Hannah b. July 1, 1679, Phebe b. Sept. 17, 1681, Zerviah b. Oct. 1, 1683, and Adonijah b. March 18, 1687.

After the death of 5 Josiah, his family removed to Rahway, in New Jersey.
