Remember the 70's, full of long hair and tacky clothes, and you know that they thought us 38-yr-olds were Really, really old and over the hill!

"Recognize any '56 grads?

A CLASS FROM PAST
by Stephanie Sloan

With graduation rolling around again you might find it interesting to know something about a graduating class of yesteryear.. The first graduating class at THS in this building was in 1956. This year's graduation marks the 20th anniversay of this occasion. The seniors of '56 numbered 238. Contrast that with this year's number of 537.

The senior class officers of 1956 were Buddy Greer, president; Johnny McLaughlin, vice president; and Mary Jane Pickens, secretary. And you might recognize the names of some of the senior class favorites of that year.

The senior beauty was Shirley Kornegay, most handsome was Dick Harmon, (and I've heard that in his time he was considered quite a catch, crew cut and all). Heading the masses in dependability were Mary Jane Pickens and Robert Ballard. Winning the competition in most popular were Annette Randall and Johnny McLaughlin.

The favorites in all catefories, better known as 'best all around' were Sissie Winslett and Tommy Roberts. Last but not least and with an eye to the future...the two most likely to succeed seniors of 1956, Priscilla Winston and Buddy Greer.

Eleven names stand out from yesteryear's rolls. They were among the 238 graduating in 1956. More than these have gone on to 'stake their claims,' make their fortunes' and find success through the years to 1976.

In 1996, a reporter may ask 'What was it like in 1976?' I hope we'll all be around 20 years from now to tell him."
