I'm sure that all of you are aware that records handwritten 200 years ago, even 100 or 50 years ago are very hard to read. Every effort has been made to insure accuracy of the information provided on this site. Please remember that if the person transcribing the information can not read the record, or has difficulty reading the record, some information may be transcribed incorrectly. This is not the fault of the transcriber. Census takers (or anyone who handwrote records) had terrible handwriting. We do our best to read and transcribe the information correctly, however, there may be some errors.
Another point of transcribing records, census takers may have written the information incorrectly (spelling of names, birth places, years of birth and death, etc.), so if you are looking for someones birth in a specific year or place, please check several years before and after, and check other locations as well.
Please do not write to me with questions on specific research. I am working to transcribe SC records from the Family History Center, Court Houses, Libraries, etc. My ancestors came from Pennsylvania, so I have no information about specific families in South Carolina. I hope to have look up volunteers specifically for this purpose. If you live in South Carolina or have books or CD's for this area and are willing to do look ups for other researchers, please send me an email me and I will list you on the Volunteer Lookup page.
