1885
Death of Mr. Sandman
- Mr. Dr. [sic] Sandman, an old and widely known resident of La Crosse County,
who resided in the town of Holland, died at his home on Sunday morning at eight o'clock,
of consumption. He leaves a wife and several children. Mr. Sandman was rated one of the
wealthiest farmers in La Crosse County. (Source: Republican and Leader (Weekly),

- Robert Sandman is busy collecting taxes. He is at Mr.
Berg's store Mondays and Thursdays and at his home the remaining

- One of W.D. Sandman's little girls died Sunday morning
after a few days illness. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon

- The remains of D. Sandman, Sr., were removed from the
grave on the farm in Long coulee to the Long coulee cemetery

- Robert Sandman has received a car load of buggies for

Quite an interest is being manfest [sic] in the subject of ensilage

W. Sandman and A. Jenks.
Robert Sandman moved into the village from his farm Monday
and occupies the C.A. Sjolander residence.

use in teh public schools.
A surprise party was given Miss Ida Peterson in honor of her
birthday last Sunday evening. The party was at the home of
Robert D. Sandman. The young people left her a fine present.
The company met at Oluf Wall's and took abundant refreshments with

- Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Miller of Great Bend, Kansas returned home this week after a
visit with relative's and friends here.

A family reunion took place at the homs[sic] of W.D.
Sandman above the village which was a very enjoyable occesion
[sic] for all the participants. About forty relatives were
present and all will long entertain pleasant recollections of the
day.

MRS. DIEDRICK SANDMAN
-
Mrs. Diedrick Sandman, one of the oldest pioneers of Holmen, died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Weingarten, in Holmen, last Friday
evening. The deceased, who had been in failing health for several weeks, was
nearly 90 years of age.
She was born in Germany and came to this country with her parents, when a
young woman. LaCrosse County has been her home since her marriage in 1853. Her
husband died 37 years ago. Mrs. Sandman was the mother of nine children, of whom
five are residing in this county, R. D. Sandman, Mrs. A. H. Bratberg and Mrs. H. H.
Weingarten of Holmen; W. D. Sandman and Mrs. F. D. Miller of West Salem. Besides
her children, Mrs. Sandman is survived by a large number of grandchildren and great
grandchildren, many of whom reside at Great Bend, Kansas.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Progressive Hall
in Holmen, and interment (sic) will be made in the Long Coulee cemetery beside the
remains of her husband.
