If you are the outdoors type, you might consider camping. It is the least expensive of all accomodations but you do need a tent or recreational vehicle (RV). Some of the better camp grounds have small cabins, where you supply the bedding. It is also recommended (from experienced travelers) that if you plan to rent a car, make car rental reservations in Hamburg, Germany as it is MUCH cheaper than renting a car in Denmark. You should make reservations before you leave your own country.

Bed & Breakfast and Holiday Home Exchange in Denmark
This page offers a way to book reservations for bed & breakfasts. You can also order a catalog from them online. The bed & breakfasts are recommended because the cost is but a fraction of that of a hotel.

Danish Hotels
This page has a searchable database to find the type of hotel in which you wish to stay.

Opodo
A webpage created by several airlines, including Aer Lingus, British Airways, and Lufthansa. Here you can check on flights, hotels, and cars. Of particular interest is the tab for Travel Guides where, after you navigate your way to the country of Denmark, you will find quick facts and a box titled Additional Information which is chock full of good stuff to know.

The best way to pay for something from another country is to pay by credit card. That way you can let the credit card company figure out the exchange rate. In lieu of using a credit card, you can also send a certified check. These can be obtained at your bank for a fee. You can also get what they call an international draft, but these cost around $25 and so are cost prohibitive. To figure out the exchange rate, click on the link above and follow the directions. Usually a good ballpark figure is seven Danish krone to one US dollar. So something priced at 84 DKK costs around $12. There is also on the site something called a Cheatsheet where you can convert DKK to dollars and print it out. Very handy if you are traveling to Denmark.

The Lutheran Church in Denmark has a homepage and on this homepage they list many churches in Denmark. At the top left corner you will see the letters A to . They cover links to the parishes that have homepages. Here you will often find an address and maybe also a photo of the church. By the way, "Stift" means "Diocese" and the links labeled "Andet" will take you to the church pictures.

This site is CHOCK FULL of information and pictures of the ships that brought our Danish ancestors to America. It's focus is on Norwegian ships and it was mainly these ships that traveled between Copenhagen and New York. It also gives the histories of the shipping lines themselves including the Thingvalla, Scandinavian-America, and Swedish-America Lines.

The Ships List
The Ships List was established to assist those seeking information on the vessels which brought their ancestors to their new home, be that the United States, Canada, Australia, or another part of the world. Some ships passenger lists, schedules, wreck data, and other information which is not readily available, has been collected, along with links to other sites of interest. There are no ships pictures on this site.

Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild
"We are a group of volunteers dedicated to making the search for our ancestors easier. We grew out of a need to find ships passenger lists right here, on-line. Many people who are searching do not have the strength of body to leave their homes and find this information. Many do not have the eyesight to search microfilms. Many with small children need to be at home with them while others do the leg work and some of us, to be sure, just want to do it the easy way. To learn more about us, please read the FAQ under Guild Information." Note: So far the only ship on this page from Copenhagen is the SS Island ariving New York, 28 December, 1888.

DAYS is a program designed to assist genealogists in finding dates of named days and generally navigate in and between the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The original program was in Danish and intended for Danish/Norwegian genealogists. The program is made by Otto Chr. L. Thygesen, who is right now making WinKip, the new program for entering census-records. DAYS covers the period 600 - 2099. In addition to that it has all the old names like Michaelis, Quasimodo, etc. and it knows when each of these days was in each year. It knows the difference between Gregorian and Julian calendar, and it knows when Denmark changed from one to the other. Also there is a calculator. An example: Say the priest wrote that Niels Hansen was buried at the age of 65 years, 4 months, minus 10 days on 17th Sunday post Trinitatis 1742. You simply enter 1742 and Trinitatis. The program tells you that this was 20 MAI 1742. Then you tell it to add 17 weeks. Immediately it tells you that he was buried on 16 SEP 1742. Then you tell it to take away 65 years and 4 months, and after that to add 10 days. Now you know that he was born on 26 JUN 1677 (if the priest could also calculate correctly), you do not even have to consider that we are now back in the time of the Julian calendar. The programm does that for you. The program is only for Windows, but it is freeware.

The Immigrant Experience. An excellent array of information regarding Castle Garden, the old Barge Office at the southeast end of Manhattan, and Ellis Island. The Detained Immigrant story is an especially informative one.

Ellis Island
Between 1892 and 1924 over 22 million passengers and members of ships' crews came through Ellis Island and the port of New York. Now you can research passenger records from ships that brought the immigrants — even see the original manifests with passengers' names..

Radio Danmark
In Danish of course.

DR Nyheder International
News in English. DRN-I broadcasts News in English on MW 1062 kHz, Monday to Friday at: 10.30, 17.10 and 22.00. Real Audio.

A Virtual Tour of Copenhagen
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, we thought we'd shut up and show
you what Copenhagen is all about. AOK's unique IPIX technology gives you an
all-round 360 degrees experience – up and down and side to side – you set
the pace and direction while your computer and mouse do the rest.
Though all of these destinations are definitely worth exploring, if you haven't
got the time or you just want a preview, come and see Wonderful Copenhagen
through our eyes. Is it just like you pictured it?

Made in Denmark
The scope of this page is to provide links to English versions of websites belonging to leading Danish organisations, whether public or private.
Note: This page is not geared toward genealogy specifically (even though some genealogical information can probably be found) but all the requests for Danish pages with English translations demands that the link be included in the Denmark FAQ pages.
