there is a "vertical file" containing some probate records of Melissa's father
which contains a note written by a genealogical researcher which states "I
believe the reference to the guardianship of the BLACK children refers to the
marriage of the above Melissa Hall to William A. Black 25 Mar 1858 in Madison
Co. Illinois.   She apparently died and the guardianship was given to her
husband in the case of the minor children by John F. and James A. Black.  Monies
from the estate of her father were requested to be held in trust for her
children by her husband William A. Black, now a resident of Minnesota.  Land
held by the late William W. Hall was to be sold to provide the monies for

The following item was clipped from "The Reporter", Verden, IL, April,1881 "Three brothers, Rev. Marshall Goode of Petersburg, IL, Rev. Galen Goode of Harristown, and D. L. Goode from near Chapman's Point, were in Virden yesterday. The two Revs. belong to the Christian denominaion, and all three brother stand not less than six feet in their stockings, and are fine specimens of physical manhood."
