LIFE STORY
Port Dalton lived near Bible Grove in 1913 and 1914 he was working in the timber for Willie H. Dalton . His wife Frances made him a pair of mittens out of old overalls. Port was proud of those mittens. He said, "Bill, look at my new mittens my wife just made me." Bill looked and couldn't tell the right hand from the left. The thumbs stuck straight out. Port was throwing brush on the fire and within a minute or two one of his new mittens was in the fire. Port said, "If I can't have them both, I don't want any," and he threw the other one in the fire, too.

Port's wife called Dessie Dalton on the phone and said, "Teresie's got a tooth. That's all. Goodbye."

Port worked for everyone around that part of Missouri and the only thing he could do was to cut brush.

Kesther T. Pruett, 85, formerly of Edina, died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at the Fayette Nursing Center at Fayette. Born December 27, 1915, near Bible Grove, he was the son of Elijah Lee and Nancy Elizabeth Stough Pruett. He married Doris Elizabeth Raymer on March 16, 1940 at Edina. Mr. Pruett was raised in the Bible Grove and Greensburg communities attending rural school near Greensburg. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Pruett were engaged in farming east of Edina before moving to town. In 1998, the moved to Canton, to make their home. He had worked as a carpenter and house painter and also engaged in trucking. After his retirement he loved to make miniature doll furniture that became more than just a hobby. Survivors include his wife, Doris, Canton; two daughters, Ellen E. and husband Larry Gelbach, Canton; Donna and husband Joe Gander, Kirksville; five grandchildren, Susan and husband Randy McReynolds, Canton; Tom and wife Debby Foster, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; Mary Mills, Quincy; Terri and husband Doug Kriegshauser, Kirksville; and Marianne and husband Andrew Romprey, Kirksville; nine great grandchildren, Christopher Hunolt, Brock and Dustin McReynolds, Samantha Abend, Marissa and Jason Mills, Adam and Scotty Kriegshauser and Ryan Romprey; several nieces and nephews.
