Bertha Toon  
   Bertha M. Toon, age 89, of Fort Smith, Arkansas died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was a Homemaker, a member of Harvest Time Tabernacle and attended the Fountain of Youth Adult Day Care Center. Her husband Alfred and son Carl precede her in death.
   Funeral services will be Friday, January 21, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at the Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at Roland City Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
   She is survived by two daughters Wilma Bradshaw of Ft. Smith and Martha Kirkpatrick of Roland, Oklahoma; three sons John Daugherty of Ft. Smith and Clarence Toon of Barling and Lawrence Toon of Ft. Smith, 26 Grandchildren, 29 Great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren.
   Pallbearers will be Chris Fuller, Billy Fuller, Jonas Kirkpatrick, L.J. Toon, Mike Toon, Mark Toon and Junior Toon.
   Visitation will be Thursday, January 20, 2005 from 6 P.M. To 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Frank & Aramanda were married 12-17-1923 she was 18 and he was 34. Aramanda B- May 8, 1906 D- Jan 1, 1925 Frank b-Feb 24-1889 d-July 27-1925 There both buried in Garrett Cemetery[Washington county Arkansas] on Cole Creek North of VanBuren Ar.. they had an infant and it died at about 6mo old then they had a daughter Sarah Lou born 11-30-1924 d 7-15-2005 She is also buried in Garrett Cemetery. Do you know that area? Aunt Sarah had 2 half brothers and 3 half sisters. Sarah was very tiny when her mother died. The children were left with just their father. It was during the winter and very cold. He lived on Cove Creek way up in the mountains. The story goes he loaded a covered wagon with a lalyer of hay, he heated some rocks layed them down and put several more layers of hay on top of the rocks. Put quilts down and put all of the children, (my father was about 6 years old) in the wagon. He headed for Roland Oklahoma. He was headed for Lewis Walker Rose & Martha Jane Clanton His Parents. It took them 3 day's and 2 nights to make the trip. They crossed the Arkansas river when it was frozen hard. both nights they were taken in by familys that feed them and kept them warm. Frank died not to long after that. His parents raised the children.

Kin of Bear Flag Pioneers, Passes
    Mrs. Nettie Belle Campbell, 86, whose parents were pioneer settlers in the Napa Valley, died yesterday at her home at 15 DeWitt Ave.
    She was the daughter of the late T. B. Edington and the former Malvina Stice, whose families settled here in 1847, participated in the Bear Flag Rebellion and played an active part in the early history of Napa County. She was born in Oakville.
    Mrs. Campbell was first married to John F. Grigsby of St. Helena and lived at White Sulphur Springs for 10 years.  After the death of her first husband she was married to Finlay Campbell and resided on the Campbell ranch at Union Station from 1912 to July, 1951, when the couple moved to Napa. She had been ill for the past 16 months.
    She is survived by her husband and was the mother of Mrs. Jennie Hansen of Watsonville, Percy F. Grigsby of Chowchilla, Mrs. Irene Kelly of Oakland, Mrs. Ida Harris of Vallejo, John Grigsby of Napa, Mrs. Malvina Jouvnal of Oakland, Mrs. Helena Galbraith of Sacramento and the late Lottie McCallum.
     She was the sister of John Edington of Everett, Wash., and George Edington of Lake County. Four brothers and a sister preceded her in death. Twenty grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and reat-great-grandchildren
also survive.
    Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Cuff and Pierce Funeral Service. Burial will be at St. Helena Public Cemetery.
