He leaves his loving wife, Imogene Saling and children; Patricia Neitzel (Jeff); Barbara Duncan (Mike); Linda Blair (Phillip); Laura Bailey (Steve); Jamie Saling (Jade); Lisa Johnson (Danny); Theresa Patrick (Charlie); James Berry (Barbara); Paul Berry (Paula); Wayne Berry (Bianca); and Darrell Berry; brother Orville Saling (Libby); and sister Ruth Fortner; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Saling retired from Ford Motor Company and was a U.S. Army veteran with the 101 Airborne Division, Progress Lodge #932 F. & A.M. and was Baptist by faith. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks, where friends may pay their respects 1-8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at Schoppenhorst, burial will be in Louisville Memorial Gardens-East. L. J. Ransom, 74, of the Walnut Log Community, Union City, died at 2 p.m. Monday at William F. Bowld Hospital in Memphis. He entered Union City Baptist Hospital 3/21. He was transferred to Memphis 3/28. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Bobby Williams and James Alford Bell will officiate. Burial will folow in Obion County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Robert M. Barnes, Van Cole, Sonny Downing, David McBride, John R. Wiley and Johnny Chessor. Honorary pallbearers will be Ewell Baker, Bill Burnett Jr, Jim Rippy Jr, Vincent Thompson, Judge Raymond Morris, Jamie Hamilton, James "Babe" Naifeh, Jerry Pratt and Barry White.
Ransom was born 8/21/1912, in Obion county, son of the late James Tilford Ransom and Nora Mae Lee Ransom. He married the former Pauline Vinson on 6/4/1933. He was a retired foreman for the Tennessee Highway Dept. He was a former employee of Brown Shoe Co., a former bus driver for Dixie School and a member of Samburg Penecostal Church. He had benn very active in the political affairs of Obion County for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife, Ransom is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hoffman of Union city; 2 sons, J. A. Ransom and Donald Ray Ransom, both of Union City; a brother Presley T. Ransom of Nashville; 3 sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Vineyard of St. Genevieve, Mo, Mrs. Clara Gray and Mrs. Goldie Hooten, both of Hornbeak; 3 stepsisters, Mrs. Louise Childress of Hornbeak, Mrs. Mamie Reed and Mrs. Christina Fuentes of Plymouth, Michigan and 5 grandchildren, Miss Kathy Ransom, Miss Amy Ransom and Mrs. Daphie Sellers, all of Union city.
