A.W. Simmons- Andrew W. Simmons, another of the pioneers and prominent
residents of Warren County, died at his home in Greenbush township
September 13, 1887, following a stroke of paralysis from which he had
suffered for several weeks.  Mr. Simmons was a native of Kentucky, having
been born in Warren county of that state September 2, 1816.  He came to
Illinois with his parents in October of that year.  He was the son of
James and Sarah Simmons, who settled first in Madison county, then in
1833 came to Warren county and settled on section 5 in Greenbush
township.  James Simmons was credited with building the third house in
that section of the county.  Andrew married Miss Asenath Brooks in 1848,
and they were the parents of seven children.  He was the owner of 479
acres of land in the Greenbush and Berwick townships, a member of the Old
School Baptist church, and had served as supervisor of Greenbush township
for nearly twenty years, was sixteen years a justice of the pece and
eleven years collector of taxes.  The Atlas spoke of him as a "model of
the old class of pioneers who settle in Warren county."

  3. Obituary: - Mrs. Asenath Simmons died in Greenbush September 26, 1911,
after a residence in Warren county for seventy-five years.  She was born in
Kentucky in 1825, and came to Warren county in 1836.  She married Andrew
Simmons in 1848, and was the mother of seven children, five of whom
survived her.  They were Wilson W., Freeman, and Roland Simmons, residing
near the home place:  Alfred Simmons of Kansas City, and Mrs. Amanda Ray
of Avon.  Her husband preceded her in death about ten years.
