Herbert Hazelip was born in Edmondson County, Ky., August 12, 1888, and departed from this earthly life on June 9 [June 8], 1965. Brother Hazelips life on earth was a busy one, and most useful. He engaged in many worthy activities which provided well for his family, and proved of great benefit to his fellow man. He was public spirited, always interested in the welfare of his community. In early life he taught in the public schools, served his county as a deputy sheriff, and for thirty years was postmaster to Asphalt, Ky. He was a Director of the Brownsville (Ky.) Deposit Bank. He was a merchant in his community for many years. In all these relationships he was efficient, honest, and absolutely reliable. In character he was pure, cheerful in disposition, firm, and though considerate was stable, and uncompromising in his convictions. His work in the Church is of inestimable value. He served as an elder in the Asphalt church and led it safely through more than one serious crisis. He was sane in judgment; sound in faith; loved the truth and ever stood firmly for it. He was unaffected by the hobbies that afflicted the church in his time and locality, and always contended for sound principles and positions. Brother Hazelip was twice married. His first wife, Mrs. Maggie Hazelip, the mother of his children, preceded him in death twelve years ago. The second wife Mrs. Martine Hazelip, survives. Both were worthy companions of a great man and excellent Christian women. He is survived by four daughters and four sons all of whom are devout Christians. The sons are all preachers of the gospel. The daughters are Mrs. Edna Lewis, Mrs. Ruth Duvall, Mrs. Charlotte Willison, Mrs. Eva Douglas. The sons are Lawrence of Pasadena, Texas; Woodrow of Collingwood, Ontario, Can.; Raymond of Bowling Green, Ky., and Harold of Iowa. One daughter died several years ago. The funeral at Asphalt church of Christ, of which he was a member and an elder, was attended by a very large concourse of sorrowing friends gathered from a wide area. The expressions of sympathy for the family took practically all the forms known to men. The service was conducted by Ernest G. Nash, and the writer, longtime friends of the deceased and his family. After the services his body was laid to rest in the New Liberty Cemetery, among the remains of the loved ones to await the resurrection of the just.

Ruth Hazelip Duvall, 86, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2003. She was a retired school teacher of 36 years, having taught for both the Jefferson County Board of Education and the Edmonson County (KY) School System. In her last years, she taught at Auburndale Elementary School. She was a member of Watterson Trail Church of Christ and a graduate of Western Kentucky University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Duvall, her brothers, Lawrence, Raymond and Woodrow Hazelip, and her sisters, Edna Lewis, Eva Douglas and Marie Hazelip. Survivors include her daughters, Judy Swannigan and Karen Helm; sister, Charlotte Willison; brother, Harold Hazelip; grandchildren, Lauri Hoover, Craig Anderson, Jon Deuser and Kristie Hall; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday at Arch L. Heady & Son-Taylor Blvd., with burial in New Liberty Cemetery, Edmonson County. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Arch L. Heady & Son and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. CDT Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home, Brownsville, KY. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Kosair Charities or the Woodrow Hazelip Scholarship Fund at David Lipscomb University, Nashville, TN.

  Ruth Stice Meredith, age 91 of Brownsville, passed away Tuesday November 24, 2009 in Brownsville.
  She was born October 24, 1918 in Edmonson County to the late Carter and Vissie French Stice and married to the late Loyd C. Meredith.
  She was a retired cook for Brownsville Elementary and Western Kentucky University and a member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church.
  Ruth is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Kerr (David) of Sherherdsville and Joann Vincent of Sweeden; two sons, Kenneth Meredith of Bonnieville and Ray Meredith (Anne) of Chalybeate; one sister, Mabel Meredith of Clarksville, IN; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Bryan and Mary Ruth Vincent.
  Services will be officiated by Bro. Malcolm Doyle with burial in the Brownsville Cemetery.

Stella Slaughter Stice, 78, of Bowling Green died at 1:59 a.m. March 10, 2005, at a Bowling Green nursing home.
The Warren County native was a factory worker at Cutler Hammer, Eaton Corp., a member of Hillvue Heights Church and a graduate of Bowling Green High School. She was a daughter of the late James Arthur Slaughter and Birdie Mahler Slaughter and wife of the late Holland Kenneth Stice. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronnie and Donnie Stice; a brother, Art Slaughter; and a sister, Jenny Ruth Williams.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Bowling Green Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Hospital.  He was a retired employee of American Standard and a Navy veteran.
Survivors: his wife, the former Paulene Blanton; four sons, Jeffrey Stice of
Seymour, James Stice of Columbus, Don Stice of Cruthersville, and Michael Stice;
four daughters, Linda Thifault of Columbus, Paula Robbins of Madison, Amy Miller
of Otisco, and Michelle Schmidt; and 12 grandchildren.  Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday,
Ivy Hill Baptist Church. Burial: church cemetery. Visitation: Buchanan Funeral
Home, Austin, after 4 p.m. Thursday."

Pauline Stice, 79, of Underwood died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville.
  She was born May 25, 1928, in Harlan County, Ky., the daughter of Dewey and Lula Coldarn Blanton. She was a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church in Underwood.
  She is survived by four daughters, Linda Thifault of Columbus, Paula Robbins of Hanover, Amy Miller of Louisville, Ky., and Michelle McKinley of Borden; four sons, Don Stice of Crothersville, Jeffrey Stice of Brownstown, James Stice of Columbus and Michael Stice of Underwood; one brother, Glenn Blanton of California; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
  The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Ivy Hill Baptist Church in Underwood. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Underwood.
  Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin was in charge of arrangements.
