TIFFORD STICE Tilford Deen Stice, born Oct. 22, 1920, in southern Indiana, passed away July 9, 2012, in Seattle. As an 11 year-old, he came to Boulder City in 1931, with his parents, F.W. "Wash) and Rella Mae Stice, and his two older brothers, Coen and Sherl. His earliest memories of Boulder City include living in a tent outside of town and watching his mother cook over a one burner stove. He attended Las Vegas high School and participated in field and track. Along with the many medals and ribbons he won during his high school years, he was Nevada State Champion in the 120-yard high hurdles in 1940. He later earned a degree in physical education and taught and coached for many years in California high schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in November 1941 and was in training at Camp Pendleton when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He served as a staff sargent in the South Pacific for the duration of the war. Deen is survived by his wife, Diana; his son, Tom; daughter-in-law, Patti; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all, including his nieces and nephews, to whom he was the "youngest uncle." Memorial services were held Saturday, July 14, at the United Methodist Church in Bellevue, Wash. He is interred at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
