HISTORY
From:  Doris Loraine Housh Stevens (descendent of Sally Stice & James
Simmons) obtained from Judy Pons, see source #4
Late in the fall of 1816 James and Sally moved to Madison County, Ill.
They made the entire trip by horseback.  In October of 1833 they moved to
Greenbush, Warren Co., Illinois driving three yoke of cattle to their
covered wagon and also had one horse hitched to a light wagon, some cows
and three dogs.
They settled first about 1 mile south of where the village of Greenbush
was established, then moved east of the village.  Rowland Simmons,
brother of James and James owned and gave the land for the village of
Greenbush.
James and Sally were members of the Old-School Predestrinarian Baptist
church.  In Politics Mr. Simmons was a democrat.

From Portrait and Biographical Album of Warren County, Illinois, Chicago:
Chapman Brothers, 1886
Greenbush was one of the early aspiring localities, the citizens of whom
looked forward with great expectations to the time when there would be
solid brick blocks, crowded streets, and all the bustle of a great city.
It was platted April 29, 1836 by Roland and James Simmons, on the
northeast quarter of section 5, the plat embracing about 40 acres.
