There are a few rules of conduct concerning the list:

1. Try to keep messages to the list relevant to your research. PLEASE
DO NOT send any kind of "chain letter", or messages about computer
viruses. Almost always, e-mail that asks you to "send this to eveyone
you can" is a hoax of some kind. Also, as a general courtesy, please
do not send any messages about "business opportunities", regardless of
how successful you may have found them to be yourself. A number of
people do find these offensive and it's best just to keep them off the
list. Any other forms of "advertising" should be relevant, in good
taste, and kept to a minimum.  Remember, this is for genealogy news,
not a business venture. And respect each other's privacy!!!
2. PLEASE DO NOT ATTACH FILES TO ANY MESSAGE SENT TO THE LIST!
If you have a text file or a scanned photograph that someone wants,
by all mean, send it to THAT person alone, don't send a large file
to everyone on the list

3. Everyone is welcome to put up an introductory post. Let us all know
who you are, where you are, etc. It would probably be a good idea to
include some basic personal information. You might also mention
occupations, hobbies, whether you wear boots and spurs, etc...

4. By default, replies to posted messages go to the original author only

5. Beyond that, post as often as you like to share news with everyone.
Send questions, like "Does anyone know where cousin whatshisname is
now?", or "Everyone's invited to our place for Christmas
next year" (be brave!) Remember this is our list - let's use it to our
best advantage.  And most of all, have fun!!!
