I've been hacked, I've been spammed, I've been sent viruses - yet I've never fallen victim to any of these tribulations. Why? How? Well of course I am careful - AND - I follow the NUMBER ONE RULE FOR VIRUS PROTECTION:
- NEVER, NEVER, OPEN ANY E-MAIL ATTACHMENTS THAT YOU ARE UNSURE OF !!!
AND, do not fall prey to emails that warn of viruses, or virus files - check with a website such as Urban Legends.com to see if the email you received, warning you of some strange new virus, is worth the "paper it's printed on"...
Rely on your Virus protection software to keep you in pretty good shape, and you should remember to update your virus protection files regularly as well.
...and beyond that, I use a full array of software to help protect my system!

From Gibson Research Corporation, an online test for your PC, Shields UP! - quickly checks the security of YOUR computer's connection to the internet! This test will give you a good indication of your vulnerability to hacking (I pass with flying colors!)
I know it seems like a lot of hassle, keeping that computer of yours safe and sound - but considering what we're all up against, it makes good sense!
There are other software packages that offer protection, and this is NOT an endorsement of any of the software listed. This combination seems to work well for me! Feel free to research this for yourself, and whatever you do - find something that will help protect your computer!
