Submitting your photographs

The Islay Photo Gallery is a place where members of the Sct-Islay mailing list can share historical photogaphs of family members they are researching.

If you are interested in adding your photographs to this site and already have them digitized, send a note to Daryl Lacey briefly describing the number and type of photos. He will send you further directions for submitting them.

If you have family photographs that you would like to see on this site but have not had them scanned already, you might want to check out Scantips web site for helpful guides to this process.

For the gallery it is most helpful if you save your scanned photographs in TIFF (.tif) format and make any necessary adjustments such as cropping and touchups in your image editing software. Then save copies of your final versions in JPEG (.jpg) compressed format making the largest dimension 450 pixels (e.g 450 x 250 px, 250 x 450 px, etc.). When you save them, give each of the .jpg files a unique name less than 28 characters long.

Write a brief description for each photograph. If possible include the date of birth, date of death, marriage information, and name of parents for each individual. Other useful information: the date and location of the photograph, the photographer's name, and the type of photograph (e.g. tintype, cabinet card). Include the unique file name you created for each photograph so the text can be linked correctly.
