Looking for any information on Margaret Gilchrist, married James Boyd in Galston, Loudon, Ayr., 8 Apr 1810. Her parents were William Gilchrist and Janet Cameron (not confirmed) married 30 Jan 1782. Any help would be appreciated.

Dougald Gilchrist and his wife, Margaret (Anderson) were married in Scotland (believed to be Ayre) where they had four daughters. Two had died in a tragic accident when they immigrated in 1872 with the older Anna and infant Janet. They settled first in Braidwood, Ill, then in 1878 the family moved to Grundy Co., Illinois, where Dougald remained intil his death in1906. He andMargaret had sons, John, William and Ronald, all born in Illinois. Margaret died when the boys were young. The oldest, Anna, went to live with her mother's sister, Ann McCarthy. Janet and the boys remained on the farm with their father. Janet later married William Reubin Robinson and in Grundy Co., then later moved with their six children to Marion Co., Kansas. Anna married a jeweler named Will Rankin.

My Gilchrists are from Wigtown - Isle of Whithorn - and lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Iowa.

Grenville County is in Ontario and is often combined as Grenville and Leeds. It is along the St. Lawrence River, across from New York State. During the American Revolution there was a lot of action along this border and Caleb Closson was a spy who rose from Sergeant to Captain. He married Hannah LANDON. Their first-born was Nancy CLOSSON who married unknown GILCHRIST. Caleb and Hannah had at least 6 children, maybe 7. They settled around Belleville, Kingston, Cornwall area (places in eastern Ontario).

My ancestry is as follows: John Gilchrist married Elizabeth Calder in Kildalton on 12/26/1807. The family eventually moved to Fenelon townhip, Victoria County Ontario, probably after John died. There were 9 children in this family and all were born in Scotland, the youngest in 1830.

Searching for ancestry of John Gilchrist b. Scotland, d. Argyle, NY Vet of Revolutionary war, 3 wives: Margaret Gillis, Jane Cowan, and Abigail Miller; had children with each wife. I descend from John and 2nd wife Jane and would love to hear from any other descendants!

My GGGG Grandfather was Richard GILL (c1795-1883?), a labourer and paviour, born in Wolverhampton, England (although another record possibly pertaining to Richard indicates birth place as Stourbridge). Richard married Irish born Margaret (maiden surname unknown). Later residences included Lawley Street and William Street in Birmingham.Richard and Margaret had a daughter named Mary (c1820-?), my GGG Grandmother, born in Ireland. Later records give Mary's maiden surname as GIL(L)CHRIST which at the moment is a bit of a conundrum for me. Why would "christ" be added to her father's name? Or maybe Richard shortened his proper name from GIL(L)CHRIST to GILL? Mary married Henry KNOWLES (c1821-?).
