Rowena Ferguson
DURAND
- Rowena G. "Ma Moore" Moore Ferguson, 80, of Durand, 1982 Citizen of the
Year in Durand, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, 1996, at SwedishAmerican
Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Daughter
of Arthur and Marian (Ray) Barker, she was born Aug. 4, 1916, in Harlem
Township, and graduated from Durand schools. She and LaVerne Moore were
married March 15, 1933, in Durand. He died July 21, 1981. On May 14, 1988,
she and Clark Ferguson were married in Lena.
Through
the years her employment included Structo in Freeport, Owens Inc. in Rockford,
Goodwill Industries in Freeport, private duty nursing assistant at Medina
Nursing Center in Durand, and the Durand Post Office.
She had
owned and operated Hilltop Cafe, and worked at other restaurants in Durand.
For 20
years she was a radio operator for the Durand Volunteer Fire Department.
She was
a member of the United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Durand,
and many of its affiliated organizations.
Survivors
include her husband; and eight sons, Robert (Sharon) Moore of Durand, Stephen
(Maxine) Moore of Davis, Donald (Donna) Moore of Machesney Park, William
(Charlotte) Moore of Elk Grove Village, Russell (Cyndi) and Kenneth (Janet)
Moore, both of Durand, Harold Moore of Lebanon, Tenn., and David Moore
of Dallas, Texas.
Survivors
also include four daughters, Nancy Bryan of Mendota, Harriet (Gerald) Schultz
of Belvidere, Joanne (Phillip) Brooks of Rockford, and Sharon (Wallace)
Armistead of Lebanon; 50 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; two step-children;
five step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding
her in death were three daughters, Marian Gratton in 1988, Linda Knoll
in 1962, and Shirley Barnum in 1985, two grandsons, Joseph Neidermeier
in 1988 and Michael Moore in 1969, and one step-grandson.
Funeral
services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Durand Grange Hall with the Rev.
Darrell English of Trinity United Methodist Church, Mount Prospect, officiating.
Burial will be in Durand Cemetery.
Friends
may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at McCorkle Ltd. Funeral Home, Durand,
where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m.
