Described on Malcolm Bull's Trivia Trail as "Sunderland, Dr Joseph [1779-1835] He was the elder brother of James. In 1775, he bought Coley Hall. In 1803, he married Hannah, daughter of Thomas Lister, and lived with her at 6 Lord Street. In 1809, he was surgeon at the Halifax Dispensary. He is buried at Coley Church". [1004] I think this statement about him buying Coley Hall in 1775 probably refers to his father, also named Joseph. In 1822 resided at 6 Lord St, Halifax. From the 1822 Baine's Directory: [1135] "Surgeons, Sunderland Joseph, (senior surgeon to the Halifax Dispensary) 6, Lord st." In 1834 resided at 6 Lord Street, Halifax. [1133] Conducted medical practice with Jubb, Tucker and Garlick. [1133] Entries in the 1834 Pigot's directory read: "Joseph Sunderland & Abraham Jubb, surgeons, Frederick H. Tucker, apothecary, Mary Garlick, matron" "Surgeons, Sunderland Joseph, 6 Lord st " | ||||||||||
