The 1859 Post Office Directory of Kent list John Thomas Cooper as a butcher of 19 Albion Road, Woolwich (the road is now something else - is near Naval Docklands). [419]
QUAY 3 ADDR Sands & McDougall Directories for Melbourne have the following listings for John Cooper. 1871/74/76 - Cooper J., Butcher, Bay Street, Sandridge - West Side, between Raglan and Inglis Street, next to the President Licoln Hotel. By 1886, John is no longer listed but his son, Thomas is listed at the same address.
JOHN died on 4 April 1889 in Yarra River, Melbourne (Victorian Deaths Register 1889 #10321 - copy on file). The was an Inquest into his Death. (Copy of Inquest papers on file.) Cause of Death was Drowning in Hobson's Bay. He went missing from his home on 4 April 1889 (copy of newspaper reports on file). His body wasn't recovered until 27 April. His son-in-law, George Taylor, identified the body. An inquest was held into his death on 30 April 1889 at Williamstown. He was buried 30 April 1889 at Melbourne Cemetery (Church of England, CC, 672). [419] |
