Misc. Notes
Later of Hopesay, Shropshire. This is the Thomas Tunstall who applies together with John's widow Mary for administration of the estate of John Tunstall of Canon Pyon. A nephew to John TUNSTALL of Canon Pyon. [236]
Margaret Slade wrote: "My clue to the origin of the family came from the Thomas Tunstall of Hopesay in Shropshire who is mentioned in the admon for the estate of John Tunstall of Canon Pyon - this is as far back as you have got. I had definitely traced the descent of Emmie Lynes (now Downard) from John but Thomas was a new name. I surmised initially that he might be a brother of John." [236]
"However on investigation, the Thomas Tunstall of Hopesay seemed to be too young to be the brother of John – possibly he might therefore be a young cousin or a nephew. I traced his marriage in the parish records of Hopesay, which stated that he came from the neighbouring parish of Stokesay. I looked there and found a Tunstall family, Thomas and Sarah Tunstall, in the records at Stokesay. They seemed to be about the right age to be the parents of Thomas of Hopesay, but I could not trace the birth of a son Thomas to this couple in Stokesay. However, I found that this same family had earlier had children baptised at Norbury in Staffordshire, right on the border with Shropshire, and among them there was a Thomas. " [236]

His last will and testament reads: [236]
