WEST SALEM - Harold L. “Red” Howell, 84, of West Salem, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Pastor Marta Mathatas officiating. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Lodi to Peter and Olive (Miller) Howell and married Ethel Neiswinter on Aug. 12, 1951. He survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Merrills Marauders for 4 years in Burma, India and China and was a mason and brick layer for 45 years.

He was a member of West Salem United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens, the 50 Plus Club of West Salem and Medina County Coon Club.

He enjoyed hunting and all sports.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Bonnie (Jim) Hisey of Homerville, Marilyn Sue (Tim) Yoder of West Liberty, Kathy Howell of Lodi and Tom Howell of Seville; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Beyer and Irene Schlayer, both of Wadsworth; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, sisters, Hazel Black, Inez Caldwell, Grace Shepherd, Mary Howell and Gladys Howell, and brothers, Irvin, Raymond, Earl, Floyd and Robert Howell, died previously.
