WEST SALEM - Elmer Scott Lewis, 75, of West Salem, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, while attending a family gathering at Strange Creek, W.Va.

Services will be Friday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with pastor Patricia Lintela officiating. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.

Friends may call Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 8:45 p.m.

Elmer was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Widen, W.Va. to Ira and Ocie (Samples) Lewis.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He retired from Premium Building Products in West Salem, where he was a welder.

He was a member of James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem and Masonic Lodge 398 of West Salem.

Surviving are his wife, Velvie (Mullins) Lewis, whom he married in 1953; three children, Steven (Jackie) Lewis of Ashland, John (Holly) Lewis of West Salem and Robin (Rick) Farnsworth of Wadsworth; eight grandchildren, including Staff Sergeant Christopher Burlingame, who is serving in Iraq; three great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Jerry and Grant Lewis of West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.
