WEST SALEM - Charles R. “Charley Bob” Blankenship, 80, of West Salem, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at his home.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Pastor Marta Mathatas officiating. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born July 11, 1923, in Wayne County, W.Va., to Francis and Minnie (Bing) Blankenship and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. In 1975, he retired from Goodyear in Akron, where he was an iron worker.

He attended West Salem United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wayne, W.Va.

Surviving are his wife, Opal (Brown) Blankenship, whom he married Nov. 9, 2000; stepdaughters, Brenda (Steve) Roberts of Lodi and Gail (Calvin) Baldwin of Jackson; two step-grandchildren; brothers, Francis C. Blankenship of Polk, Jack Blankenship of Flora, Ill., and Roger Blankenship of Port Rickey, Fla.; and sisters, Mary M. Motz of Hebron, Winifred Adkins of Akron, Helen Finch of Crooksville, Kathleen Cremeans of Wayne, W.Va., Patricia Graham of Proctorville and Jean Chapman of Ona, W.Va.

His first wife, Edith Blankenship, died in 1997.
