WEST SALEM -- Alan Parker, 81, of West Salem, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Wooster Community Hospital.

Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Pastor Steven Hisey officiating. Burial will be in West Salem Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home one prior to the services.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Road, Wooster 44691.

Alan was born July 13, 1927, in Cleveland, the son of George and Lillian (Clark) Ruff and married Mae B. Doran on July 25, 1953. She survives.

He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in 1982, retired from the Cleveland Fire Department, after 25 years of service. After retirement, he was a desk clerk at the Homerville Post Office.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Claudia (John) Burge of West Salem and Alan Timothy Parker of Florida; grandchildren, Benjamin (Jennifer) Burge, Laura Burge and Daniel Parker Burge and girlfriend Lindsey Beegle; a sister, Sara (Henry) Immes of Arizona.

His parents died previously.
