He first married Melissa Jane SUFFIELD, 17 Feb 1873. Died 19 Nov 1874. Her sister married his brother Nimrod. People said she and her sister were the most beautiful girls in the county, and they were well-known as socialites. Both girls died of consumption within a few months of each other.

He second married Armanda Melinda JACKSON, daughter of William Andrew JACKSON and Suzanna SHORE, 19 Jun 1877 in Hancock Co., IN. Born 18 Mar 1861 in Hancock Co., IN. Baptism in Beech Grove Congregation, Pendleton, IN. Died 30 Apr 1934 in Pendleton, Madison Co., IN. Buried in Grove Lawn Cemetery, Pendleton, Madison Co., IN. Occupation Homemaker. Religion Old German Baptist Brethren.

Henry and Armanda lived in a log cabin on a hilltop about one half mile from the nearest road, on 40 acres adjoining his father's property. After Jehu's death, he and his sister Jane Shore purchased from the other heirs the original farm. Henry continued to acquire property to the south and east of his father's, eventually owning several hundred acres.

He was killed in a freak accident when the horse that was pulling his buggy was spooked by a motorcycle while going downhill, and kicked into the buggy, striking him in the abdomen. He was carried into a nearby house, where he died of a ruptured spleen a few hours later.
